When are college re-applicant candidates considered? I see where 2 college re-applicants received LOA's; and also appointments. I was told that this "first wave" is HS students - and college re-applicants are looked at separately and at a later time.? Believe me, waiting the first time was tough - but year two of uncertainty is brutal.

Perhaps the college re-applicants were appointed last year, and for some medical reason/setback were unable to report on R -day. This is the case with my DD who is now waiting for her appointment this year. She has completed all the stipulations stated on her LOA and has been medically cleared for full activities with no restrictions. Just waiting for the official stamp on her medical waiver to be completed and will hopefully be adding her name on this year’s appointment list.

College students are reviewed at the same time as HS students, but getting your file qualified depends on how quickly you get your college transcripts in.

If you look the appointment thread from last year, the first couple of college re-applicants posted acceptances in February. As @JK2009 indicated, the SAs will want to see first semester college transcripts before candidates are reviewed, so typically not included in the "first wave" announcements.

How is the process different for college re applicants ? If you received a nomination in the previous year do you need to earn a new one? Do you open a new file with West Point? Are you able to continue to take SAT/ACT?

It takes a lot of heart to continue to work toward a goal despite setbacks. I imagine it's that sprit that makes one a good leader. Good luck.

The process is similar for a re-applicant. The SA will want to see how that the individual was resilient and performed well in college (re-applicants should take college classes that mirror those at the SA as closely as possible).

And yes, you may continue to take the SAT/ACT.

My son was a 3 time applicant and this is what we learned.
Yes, reapplicants need a nomination.
Yes, he had to open a new file every year. Although, USMA will move some info from the previous year into your new app.
Yes, you can keep taking the ACT/SAT, unless your scores are perfect keep taking them. My DS had high scores but they had him take it one last time, his second year in college, so he ended up with 32 and up for all subjects.
Yes, it takes a lot of grit to reapply! Our son handled it better than we did :)
He was a Feb. appointment last year, has no regrets and knows USMA is where he is supposed to be! Good luck

Congratulations to your son! Hoping Feb brings great News our way!

ThayerWeek, glad to hear that you are reapplying. In my case as a college re-applicant, my grades were not made available until just a couple of weeks ago, and I did not ask my instructors for SOEs until after the new year as well in order to avoid adding on to the stress of finals. This is obviously school- and student-specific. Aside from that, my state does not give nominations until mid to late January, so that also plays into whether or not someone's file is complete for review, not to mention the many, many other parts of the application. I probably won't be getting a decision until March at the earliest. Good luck!

I am a college applicant and I received notification of my appointment two days ago. Notice I say "college applicant" and not "re-applicant" I say this because I did not apply to West Point originally. My first time was this year while I was already in college. However, I do not think this distinction had any wight in when my appointment was sent out. Best of luck to you!

Thank You! Again I think my schedule is somewhat unique because until recently I want sure whether or not an Acadmey was the best course of action for me so when making my schedule it was built around both the scenario of me staying at my university and me leaving after a year.
Over the summer I took a sociology course to keep me on the premed track and a course called GL required my all freshman at my university.
Fall semester I took Calculus 2, Programming 1 (computer engineer major :)), Anthropology (premed) and a medicine course (premed)
This spring I have Chem 2, Upper division psych course (premed), Scuba diving (fun course), Hamilton (fun course about history of Alexander Hamilton) and a leadership course.
Its a somewhat lighter load than one may expect but it gives me time to focus on my sport, other athletics and community service events.

Clearly this schedule was tailored very specifically to me and my situation and does not necessarily fit the typical answer of "take a traditional plebe schedule of math science and English". Hope this helps!
