Waiting For an Answer

I submitted my application to USNA in mid-October, got the nomination before that, and resent CFA scores in November. How long can I expect to continue to wait for some sort of answer, whether yes or no?

Secondary question, I went to CVW in late Oct. Did that help my chances at all or does it have no effect? I've gotten mixed answers.

CVWs are sent out to individuals who are characterized as "highly qualified candidates". They are meant to cement your resolve in being a Midshipman, if you happen to be "on the fence" about it.
Getting invited is generally a good thing, but won't typically count in your favor or against you (unless you act like an idiot while you're there and do something stupid, I suppose). I guess from that point of view, it could be bad.

When do TWE letters usually come out by

TWEs can be received between February 1st (after the January 31st application deadline) and April 15th, typically.

I got rejected by NASS but got invited to CVW around August to attend October weeks. I didn’t attend because I didn’t have money to fly from Guam to Annapolis.

Wow Guam is far, but don’t be discouraged. Sons didn’t get invited to CVW, no LOA, but both got in Jan. after congressional nom.

That is reassuring. I got two nominations for USNA, no LOA, but did go to CVW

Yup! I am awake while everyone’s sleeping. It’s gonna be tough getting used to the timezones if I get in. I also did not get an LOA and no congressional nomination when I got invited to CVW.

Although, I am one of the first ones from Guam who received a congressional nomination to USMA, USNA and USMMA making USNA my top school.

I’m hoping for the best. I’ll take NAPS if offered also.

Also, is CVW random or is it really for 'highly qualified' candidates? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm very curious.

In regards to NAPS, my BGO said that my academics and extracurriculars are too good to go to NAPS but could possibly not be enough to gain an appointment. Is this a common problem? Has anyone else heard this?

Indeed. Pretty common. Hold fast. Ramp up your exercise regimen. Stay out of trouble. And don't give up the ship!

Every year right about this time, these kinds of threads get posted (I believe some already have been posted). Here is my advice for those still waiting:

(1) You should feel good that you have reached the point with a completed application -- many candidates don't typically make it to this point, only completing some/none of the application.
(2) At this point, you have pretty much submitted (hopefully) the best application package you could have put forward. Unless you are submitting the last of your documents or updates this final week, the ball is now completely out of your court.
(3) You are either a senior or probably in college...ENJOY the remainder of senior year or college SMARTLY (as pointed above, keep your nose clean and avoid risky physical activities)...find something to distract yourself (socializing with friends, working out, sports, school events, etc).
(4) Work on Plan B through Plan Z schools, if necessary.
(5) USNA doesn't promise any notifications until April 15th...set your expectations to not hear until this date...that way if you hear earlier (hopefully, positive news), it is icing on the cake. Asking admissions or your BGO is not going to help -- we will not disclose Admissions Board OR appointment status AND in most cases, you will know of an appointment before we even do.

Best of luck to all who are seeking an appointment.

It's a shame it's such a long trip from Guam to visit. I think my DS and I took it for granted how easy it was for us to visit the SA'S living in New Jersey. 4 out of 5 are within a tank of gas away.

I have heard this from my BGO as well.

On January 24, 2019 I received a nomination from my congressman, which completed my required actions for my application. I only know this from checking my candidate portal. I did not receive a call from the congressman's office. I was fortunate enough to received an LOA in October 2018. My portal still reads "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA". Will this change or will I get some kind of notification regarding an appointment offer? Thank you all in advance for your advice!

Have you fulfilled the condition upon which your LOA was based? If so, then a decision is forthcoming. Of course, it could be a TWE or BFE. And it could be anytime between now and May 1, and perhaps even later. (But I’m guessing you’d rather get a BFE in May than a TWE tomorrow.) Not easy to contemplate, but it’s just the nature of the beast. Best wishes.

Since you have an LOA and it appears you met the conditions an offer should be coming. Admissions is super busy. Hang in there, it will happen, just takes time.

How could an LOA and a nom with 3q lead to a TWE?

You are in an excellent position. These things take time to update and get offers made, depending on how Admissions is working its way through all the associated admin processing.

I believe USNA lets the elected officials know if an appointment is being offered, so they may choose to call and tell you. Or you might see a portal update. Anytime between now and mid-April, but let’s hope for sooner rather than later!
