Waiver

Question. My son has a disqualifier on his DODMERB for color deficiency. His portal still says medical exam review needs to be completed. Is there anything he needs to do to apply for the waiver? From what I understand he just waits. He's had his application complete since August, and medical and eye exams complete since then. Is this normal? Just want to make sure we're not missing something.

Thank you in advance

There should be a letter in his DODMERb portal that says if there are any required actions for his DQ (medical records to provide a written affidavit etc). We have had to work through the AMIs for DODMERB. Always listed in the portal

My son’s dodmerb says:

Agency: US Naval Academy
Cycle Year:2018
Current Medical Status: Pending Waiver Submission/Review
Code Description
D156.10 Color vision deficiency that does not meet individual Services' standards

I am asking him to tell me what his portal says. We know he was DQ’ed 1/2/19. And I know he is waiting for approval (or denial) from the superintendent.

mara got it right! Any correspondence should be listed in the portal. They try to make it as streamline as possible, but right now they're processing lots of waivers, so it may take a bit longer than a lot of us would like. That being said, it would never hurt to contact your respective area coordinator to make sure that there is nothing that needs to be done. Welcome to the military, a big old game of hurry up and wait. Good luck to you and your family throughout this process!

Not sure if this is the question, but the waiver process is out of your hands. The Academy basically directs everything, on its own timetable, of course. We didn't get final clearance until early May.

For color blindness?!?

I received my Offer of Appointment in the blue folder by mail yesterday. I have already initiated the Police Clearance and sent the Body Alteration and the citizenship forms. Do I need to order any uniform etc. before the I-Day or it will be provided there or should I carry some formal wears? I am confused.

No, not for color blindness, but I don't think it much matters. They move at their own pace ...
