Army ROTC Scholarship is out!

Not shaming for the accomplishments, I’m shaming for being indecisive with time sensitive, highly sought after awards that others are striving for.

That is enough. Your conduct is unbecoming of someone pursuing a commission as an officer.

Learn to congratulate and build up those around you. Resilience, graciousness, and discipline are characteristics of an officer. Back-biting and griping are certainly not.

My heartfelt congratulations to those that were awarded a scholarship. I look forward to serving with you and applaud your willingness to lead.

Sorry that calmly stating my opinion on giving a courtesy was taken poorly. I too congratulate all winners, especially someone who was able to get a 4 year for multiple branches, AND an appointment to an academy. I had no hostile intent behind my statements, but I can see how it could be taken that way online. I was simply suggesting a courtesy, that I have already personally planned on doing should I win multiple awards.

To those that did not win this board, DO NOT FLIPPIN' LOSE HOPE. I remember when I saw the results for the second board last year and I was devastated that I wasn't selected but I waited until the 3rd board and was selected!! I was soooooooo happy and told my best friends immediately. WAIT FOR THE FINAL BOARD!

+1 to @GoCubbies . . . in times past, some folks had to completely shutdown their computer and restart in order to properly clear the cache! Upon restart they found they had indeed been awarded a scholarship. Not sure if the problem was on the AROTC end or their own computer, and it may be that this glitch has been fixed, but if you did not receive a portal update showing you had been awarded a scholarship, please try it.

Just to update, I tried the restart & clearing my internet cache but the portal status did not change. My DD emailed the ROO and he told her that she has won a 4 yr National scholarship & that it will take a few days to update. Not sure if it is because she is a nursing major or if it is tied to the school, but grateful either way. So, I guess it is possible that glitches occur/keeping fingers crossed at this time. Good luck to everyone on this roller coaster!

Just recently won a 3 year scholarship! Hopefully, DODMERB or any of the other requirements doesn't stop me now. Is it true that a 3AD can change to a 3 1/2 or 4 depending on how well you do in the program?

Yes ... it has happened, and it can happen ... best of luck

DS got a 4 year AROTC scholarship to his top 3 schools! Already accepted ED to #1 school, so we are thrilled. Got a call from ROO from #1 school yesterday afternoon congratulating him. FYI - DS did not receive a scholarship from the 1st board and was disappointed, but stayed positive for a chance at 2nd board when he knew more scholarships would be awarded. Congrats to all the scholarship winners & best of luck to those still waiting for the 3rd board.

Congrats to all AROTC first and second round scholarship winners. My DS is among you with a 4 year for his top 3 schools and two of them also offered him free room/board as well. We are humbled/ blessed/ overwhelmed/happy.

For those who did not receive an offer this round, and are disappointed. I have compassion for what you are going through. There are more scholarships coming in the next round, and many other options to fund schooling and room and board - both in and out of the armed services. Start a thread on that if you’re interested or PM me if you need support. Tuition/ room/ board numbers today have far outpaced inflation – it’s daunting. But there are ways to do it that can yield you get a degree without a mountain of debt.

With a little more experience under their belts, we have a few adults commenting here as if these kids should be able to handle this more gracefully or in a sense, get over it. Well, the kids don’t necessarily have the benefit of experience yet, and this is a big disappointment, it stinks, it hurts, it’s surprising to some who were caught off-guard by the outcome after feeling emails from ROO’s meant they were on a different path, and it’s OK that they’re not feeling great about it right now. I recall in my own teen years being markedly impacted by things I would now consider trivial. If talking it out helps, then keep talking - this is an anonymous board and happy to lend an ear if you need one – but also please listen between the lines of what folks are saying too - because with the “get over it” messages to the children struggling is a lot of sage wisdom also being shared by people who care, and are trying to help you.

No. If you got a 4 year Air Force, an academy appointment, and a 4 year Army, you can definitely afford to give up your least favorable ASAP. I would have pulled my ROTC applications immediately if I found out I got an appointment in October. These are coveted scholarships, and if you applied for these opportunities, get them, yet can’t make up your mind fast on which one to take thereby taking the opportunity for others, you should be ashamed. You shouldn’t apply for these scholarships if you haven’t thought out a pre determined your ideal option.

Completely disagree. My son was appointed to USMA and received a 4 year AROTC in a 24 hour period. He earned both opportunities through 4 years of hard work plus. He can process his feelings and make the best choice for him. He has nothing to be ashamed of in taking some time to make the best choice of what he earned.

Great to hear! Hard work always pays off, and enjoying the reward is never shameful. Congrats!

Absolutely! We also have a few college visits planned and have asked DS to please wait, at a minimum, until we return to make a final decision.

It is tough for 17-18 year old kids to process the enormity of the commitment. The BFE from USMA came today but no portal update yet. He has a 4 year NROTC to throw into the mix. He is going to turn down civilian schools to open up spots. Good luck!

Can someone tell me what it says on your account if you did not get a scholarship or got sent to the third board?

If it does not say "winner" by this point, you did not receive a scholarship this board. There was one case of someone saying their portal hadn't updated when they had in fact received a scholarship, but unless you hear anything regarding the contrary from Cadet Command or an ROO, then you were sent to the third board.

Trying to find out my son's selection status, when we login we get the message "a general error has occurred". Is anyone else getting this message? Says to click on the technical/site feedback but that isn't working either. I turned off my computer in case that was the problem, still doesn't work.

If you really want to know would call a school on list :)

My DS won a 3yr AROTC Scholarship on the second board, is it still possible to earn a 4yr on the third board?

No, once you have received the winner status, you either accept or decline it. An application is only boarded and chosen for a scholarship once. A 3 year is still a beautiful thing. The Army has just offered to pay for 3 years of your school! Celebrate and enjoy. You may even be able to upgrade it in the future when you visit your ROTC campus.
