Hi
My son got the nomination through new elected congress woman in mid January.
BGO told us he has 3Q but no Loa.
I heard each MOC has one or two guaranteed slate...
His is the only one nominee.
Do you have any idea this is good sign for us?
I just wondering how about the old congressman’s slate and is it combines old and new or just us???
Thanks

I did but I hey not sure.
They say have to find out but not really different other MOC .....

The typical way this works...
If the outgoing MOC submitted a filled slate (10 candidates), then it will not and cannot be disturbed by the incoming MOC. If the outgoing MOC does not fill the entire slate, the new MOC can add candidates to the remaining available slots (up to a total of 10 candidates). I guess the bottom line in this case, if the outgoing MOC submitted SOME candidates names for the slate, then your son will not be the only one. However, if the outgoing MOC left the submission of the slate entirely up to the new MOC, then it would seem your son would be the only one. I would say the latter would be very, very odd unless it is a very remote MOC district in which very few applicants apply to USNA.

Edit: for clarification, the incoming MOC can still add to the slate until Jan. 31, if spots are available.

I am also new to this, so take this opinion with a grain if salt...I am under the impression that the congressional district can have up to 5 appointments charged to it at one time. If you are saying the outgoing congressman nominated a slate and now the new one nominated your child, I think your son will be competing will all nominations from your district for the available slots. Good luck!

New congressman took the office 1st week of January and there is no time to fill it up their slate(up to 10),and they said he is the only nominee.
According to usnabgo08 hope old congressman slate full.
Thanks

I think you want the old MOC’s slate to be not full per usnabgo08. Even better yet - the old MOC doesn’t have anyone.

“When a congressionally-nominated academy position is vacant, a Member of Congress may nominate 10 persons for possible appointment. As DOD service academy cadets or midshipmen who received a congressional nomination graduate, or as their appointments are otherwise terminated, a nominating Member office can make new nominations to fill any vacated positions. Typically, one appointment per DOD academy per Senator and Representative is available annually. In some years, however, a congressional office might have the opportunity to make nominations to fill multiple vacancies at an academy.13 Appointments made by a predecessor are considered part of the quota of a newly elected Member. Appointments made for candidates whose Representative changes as a result of legislative redistricting are considered as part of the new Member’s allocation.14 The service academies can provide congressional offices with information about the number of appointments available for Members to nominate.”

From page 5 https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL33213.pdf

It is my understanding that in the situation of an outgoing and incoming member congressman, the number of slates that can be submitted per academy is limited by the number of appointees currently charged to the outgoing member. So in the case above, if, for example, the outgoing congressman currently has four appointments charged to him/her at USNA, then only one slate total can be submitted from that district to USNA to fill the fifth remaining appointment. As stated by others, either the incoming congressman added your DS to outgoing congressman’s unfilled slate or outgoing congressman did not submit slate and incoming congressman submitted slate with only one nominee.

Thanks for all the response.
Im kind of confusing.
So old Congressman’s nominees combine with new congressman’s slate?
Also our district was vacant last year and new district is different then the old district.
My concern is my son can get guaranteed sopt or not.(only one nominee -congressman took over the January 3rd and usna application closes January 31st)

JuliaLee, my recommendation is really not to worry about it - it is beyond your control. Outside an LOA, there aren’t any guarantees of an appointment. There are lots of unknowns here and instead of trying to analyze everything to the “t,” I would just let everything play out and hope for the best.

Hello, I would not worry to much. If your son has a nomination and is qualified scholastically, medically, & physically then he has a very high chance of getting in. If The Navy wants him, they will find him a slate;)

@Julia Lee Our MOC Office was vacant too and the newly elected congress woman nominated my son late Dec. About 3 weeks later, son received appointment. He had No LOA. Wishing you good news soon.
