Hi all,
I am excited to be visiting West Point in February as a future cadet! I have a few questions regarding the visit if anyone is able to answer. Thank you!
1- Are there any items recommended to pack?
2- I have read that it is polite to bring a gift for the cadet I shadow; are there any recommendations for what to give?
3- Will I have time to meet with professors of my intended major?

Hi! I'm also going to an overnight visit and I was wondering the answers to these questions.
Do we also have to carry our backpacks the whole day? Should we bring a small backpack or a duffel bag?

There was a very recent post to cover most of the needed items. Seems if you have room a sleeping bag and pillow. Also comfortable warm clothes and waterproof shoes for conditions of snow or rain.

Gloves and a hat would be nice. I’m not sure if they were on the list or not but I would’ve really enjoyed them. Also, bring some homework or a book to keep you occupied during your free time and pencil/paper so you can participate in classroom activities.

DD did couple nights at Naval Academy and brought home made cookies and was well received!

DS didn’t bring a sleeping bag and wish he had a blanket. He only got a cot. He did bring brownies and some other goodies with him.

DD was at USNA and she wished she had warmer blankets. Several student visitors got little sleep because the only room for their cots were under cold drafty windows.

On my overnight visit I brought some store-bought cookies and they were all gone by the end of the day.

DD brought snacks for her host and her roommates to share. Also gave her host an Amazon gift card to thank her. Although gifts are not required, I’m sure they are truly appreciated

My son had his overnight with his brother and I sent homemade cinnamon bread for his brother/roommates. Warm clothes are a must along with work for the evening study period. Sleeping bag too!

Sleeping bag. Homework. Workout gear. Snacks for roommates is ok and well received, but there is zero shortage of food/snacks...not required or expected.

Make sure you tell your cadet who you want to see during your visit... they will help you find them.

Not sure where the gift idea came from. Could go either way: appreciated or creepy. Cadet showing CCs around are exempt from certain room requirements and receive other little perks. That's gift enough.

My 2021 son took his host homemade cookies and buckeye candies when he visited USNA on a CVW. Appreciated and well received. My 2021 showed his brother around USMA last week and I made his favorite sweet bread. He also was exempt from no duties while he hosted his brother.

Gifts are not expected but baked goods make everyone happy.
