Just curious whether anyone here knows whether a foreign accredited degree (a Canadian Bachelor's degree) will suffice for an American Citizen applying to the Navy's OCS? Most sites for OCS requirements just say "a four year degree" is needed but I did see one for a specific officer job that said, "A four-year degree from an accredited U.S. college or university is required..." I have emailed a recruiter directly on navy.com to ask but have always had good information from these forums so thought I'd also check here. Thanks!

It will be faster to go and talk to a Navy recruiter directly. Although they are enlisted and primarily handle enlisted accession, they all work for an officer who would also be able to weigh in where the enlisted recruiter's knowledge might have some limitations.

Officer accession is partly handled by US Code, and largely handled by the individual branches. Hence, you will likely get a different answer from each branch.

As long as your degree is recognized as a bachelor degree in the US, I think you would be looking at a waiver at most.

We have many foreign born, naturalized officers in the US Military. Not all of them obtained their education in the US.

Go talk to recruiting in person. That should get you moving in the the right direction.

Thank you Tbpxece this is good to hear. I will wait for the recruiter to respond and hope all goes well :) It's encouraging to hear that there are other US Citizens in the military that were admitted having received their education outside the US!
