Medical Evaluation for Waiver at WP?

I am not sure what you are asking??? Is WP asking you attend a supplemental medical exam, get an exam yourself, or are they are doing a medical evaluation of your records and information based on your DQ code in the waiver medical section?

A bit late in the game to be starting waiver process for 2023 - never say never but time is precious at this late date. Can you clarify your application status and HS class year?

If planning early for 2024 application you have plenty of time for DoDMERB issues.

And please read the DoDMERB forum for a lot more detail.

@sunflower-did USMA just issue a waiver request for your class of 2023 application? If yes, did you recently update your application with some significant new information (eg. Updated SAT/ACT scores)? It is actually not late in the process. Have seen waiver requests come in February and approved in March. Good luck!

@sunflower If you browse some of these threads you will see instances of waivers granted in May or even June. One poster said their DS got a waiver and phone call from his RC the day before R-Day. It is not over till R-day..:)

Thank you all for your feedback. My DS has been in the waiver process since Nov, and has submitted all that has been asked of him and then some. He was recently asked if he would be willing to come to WP for an exam if necessary--that is what prompted my question.

If needing to attend an in person medical @ WP is what is needed for that waiver...DO IT! Hopefully it will be resolved without the travel, all the SA's have a method of madness to see just how much you want the Army/Air Force/Navy/CG/etc....sometimes when they ask you difficult questions or if you can do something it is their means of seeing if you are committed to that Service.

Not being an MD, I can't imagine why they have been working on your son's waiver since November and are just now asking if he will come up for a exam. All I can think of is it must be a strange case that all the material submitted so far has not clarified and want THEIR specialist to examine your son to make sure he is able to complete training and serve his career without medical problems. I have read that there is no set parameters for time to process or finalize waivers, it generally is determined by the condition or conditions needing to be waived. May I ask, does your son have an LOA? If so that may be the reason.

@sunflower, I think you have your answer. Your son has an appointment waiting if he gets medical clearance, so WP wants him and is doing everything they can to get him fully qualified so he gets his appointment. In your situation with an appointment to WP waiting, do WHATEVER you son's RC wants him to do, even if he does not get the waiver till late May I think (others here probably know more) he is fine because of the LOA....

Good Luck!!

My DD (2022) was medically DQ'ed last December, and went through the waiver process. She supplied any supplemental info that they requested. At some point (sorry I can't remember specific dates, it was a crazy time), she was given the same opportunity to go up to WP for a medical interview. She went, and it totally made the difference. She had about an hour talk with the Dr. and came home. She was offered appointment early March of last year. IF it is feasible to get there, do it.

The doctors at West Point do not wish to be dream crushers for your DS. They will give him a very fair shake and the fact that they are giving this opportunity indicates this. But also go in understanding that some medical conditions are not conducive to military service.
