DQ and a Remedial?

My USAFA portal says "complete but medically disqualified." And, DODMERB still says "pending waiver review/submission." However, I'm confused because I recieved single disqualifications in addition to a remedial. This is what it displays:
06-Nov-18 Date exam reviewed
08-Nov-18 Date letter sent - Single Disqualification
08-Nov-18 Date letter sent - Remedial(s) with clin Remedial(s)

What does the remedial mean? That I'm being considered for a waiver? The single disqualifications are different than what the remedial requested.

Yes, they requested more information regarding a series of concussions. The concussions weren't listed under my DQ codes though.

Remedial also asked for the gynecology questionnaire to be filled out? There was no mention of any medical history prior to the remedial in that area so I'm wondering if that was a mix up.

Contact DoDMERB and ask them. The waiver might have been denied by AF. Confirm with them what’s going on - my guess is meaningless.

What are the codes on your DoDMERB portal? If they start with an "R" it is a remedial, if it starts with a "D" then it is a DQ, and the number after the code can be determined by looking at the left side and clicking on "Medical Codes" and there is a section for DQ Codes and one for Remedial Codes. Find yours and look it up. Then go to DoD Instruction 6103.03 and find the issue and see what it says as to the etiology and chronicity. That will give you a very good idea of what is holding things up. Remedials are MUCH easier to resolve and faster than Disqualifications who have to go to Waiver Authority at the particular program you are trying to get into.

My son just got a spondylolysis DQ from a stress fractured pedicle in L4 in 2015. He fully recovered and was cleared back to ski racing approximately 11 weeks after the MRI results. He has had no residual issues and has continued to play Varsity soccer, Alpine racing(endured several crashes), and Varsity track over the last three and a half years. From what I have read, it appears USAFA will determine whether they will bring a waiver forward on his behalf or are we suppose to do something? They requested remedials which we provided and his orthopedic specialist provided a statement that he has been cleared back to all activity and he has no reservations of him serving in the armed forces.

His USAFA Portal is still saying Medially Disqualified. His DoDMERB portal went from disqualified to Pending Waiver Submission/ Review- Does that mean USAFA submitted a waiver on his behalf?

Any additional insight on any necessary steps would be great or any idea how likely he might get a waiver? The waiting has been rough especially with him getting this far through the process.

The DoDMERB status: "Pending Waiver Submission/Review" only means that they have notified your prospective command that you have been medically disqualified, not evidence of a waiver being submitted. The academy portal should s how something similar to : "Waiver Submitted/Medical Review Initiated" or something to that language. ROTC programs don't really have a candidate portal and you should ask your ROO or PMS to find out what the status is. On DoDMERB, I do not believe your portal changes until information from your command comes in requesting records, AMI, Exam, or the results of the review.

My son’s portal at USNA did not say anything about waiver submitted.

He called admissions a few weeks after DoDMERB dq’ed him. They told him the waiver was sitting on the Superintendent’s desk waiting for approval.

I do not how USNA portals work, but DoDMERB as I stated above only shows anything other than "Pending Waiver Submission/Review" when an academy or command asks for AMI, additional info, and Exam, or the waiver is granted or denied.

did your DS get official notification of the Waiver being Approved? If he did, many congrats, he should be good to go...:)

He has accepted his appointment already. :)

USNA portal changed action required from Medical Qualification to none on Thursday the 7th, DoDMERB confirmed waiver was approved a few minutes later on phone, MOC called son in principals office on 11th, appointment offer showed up on the 13th, accepted a few minutes after (before they changed their minds!). :)

GREAT!!! Your son is one of the selected few....and will do fine at Annapolis..:)
