I recently received an appointment to the Virginia Military Institute, for which I am very grateful. As I am currently applying for an NROTC - MO Scholarship, I was wondering whether or not I should inform my Officer Selection Officer of this appointment. Will it benefit my application, or possibly influence where I receive my scholarship to (if I do receive a scholarship that is)?

What do you think you think? It certainly can’t hurt to touch base with whoever is helping you with the process and update them on your situation.

Luke,
I'm on the same path. I got my acceptance to VMI pretty late since I live overseas and am also applying for an NROTC-MO scholarship. I let my officer know as soon as I got that letter. Also, are you doing STP? Because I'm appointed as a history major and am stuck between deciding to take a history or math class.

I'd take math - get it knocked out by itself

That's what I've been thinking recently.

I am on the fence regarding STP. On one hand, I think it is a great opportunity to knock out a difficult class like calculus (I suck at math, which explains my interest in the humanities) while also getting semi-acclimated to the VMI lifestyle. But on the other, I am an applicant for USNA, so I don't want to commit too early (also I want to enjoy my summer). I have some time to mull thing over, so we shall see. Anyhow, good luck with your NROTC - MO application, and maybe see you in August?

I've been talking to a rising senior at VMI and he strongly recommends STP which is why I'm planning on going. Here is a link to courses offered at STP: https://www.vmi.edu/academics/summer-programs/summer-transition/available-courses/. The math requirements for NROTC-MO aren't very demanding so I don't think we'd have to take anything real advanced like calculus.
Obviously that will be different at the Naval Academy where I think all cadets have to take Naval Engineering, Calculus etc. I haven't gotten a form for STP signup yet so there's still time to decide. Good luck to you as well with your scholarship, and if you end up going to VMI I'm sure we'll meet.
