So I am at the Colgate Navy basketball game.

I’m not sure I am ready to switch from Syracuse basketball to Navy.

They need to pick up their game ...

Root for who you want to root for. You didn't go to Navy and there is nothing that says that just because your son goes there that you have to be the consummate Navy fan.

Hmmm...Syracuse, Navy. Kind of like comparing oranges and apples, no? (Pun intended.) Like comparing leadership labs and saying, “I’m not sure I’m ready to switch from USNA to Syracuse. They need to pick up their game.”

Not in March Madness in 1986 when Navy beat Syracuse in the Dome. :)

It was an easier decision to switch football teams. SU stinks. ;)

What’s the problem? We BEAT ARMY by 11 points last week.

Army BEAT NAVY by 11 points in January while the Army womens team BEAT NAVY both games in January/February.

The question was whether I switch from Syracuse to Navy.

Army was never an option. :p

Navy has had down years for both teams in my opinion. The men’s team is actually kind of scary, because when they play well they can play with anyone. The coach has done a good job of rebuilding and I thought after last year they turned the corner after getting 20 wins. It’s 7 or 8th season and I was hoping they would be further ahead than they are. They can’t seem to be consistent year after year. The women’s team had something like 25 wins and lost in the Conf Championship last year. Played in the NIT. I think they have one senior this year and are definitely in rebuilding mode. Program has been very successful with Stef Pemper at the helm with many post season appearances.

My son’s AAU coach was a D1 coach ... told me a year ago he was friends with Ed DeChellis.

Boy he yells at his players!

Looks like some good players on the team ... Colgate has three players that were solid. Didn’t miss.

I was kidding about Navy - I am switching. My son and I watched basketball together.

Touché! Haha!

Watching Army/Navy wrestling currently! As a a high school wrestling mama, Go Army!

Star achieved for Army. [emoji93] 22-10 final score for wrestling.

We cheer for many teams and even Navy when they aren’t playing Army.

DeChellis has done a good job rebuilding, but just hasn’t gotten over that final hurdle to get them out of the middle of the pack. It’s sort of a hard one... they haven’t done bad, but haven’t done well either. I think after 20 wins last year, after sitting around .500 the few years prior, they took a step back this year in my mind. Be curious how next year turns out. If they around the .500 or below next year I could see them going another direction.

Speaking of Army basketball, the women’s team suffered a terrible tragedy several years ago. Its very young, vivacious and promising coach — Maggie Dixon — died suddenly, shortly after leading the Black Knights to one of their best seasons ever. The team and the Corps revered here, and she’s buried in the West Point cemetery.

I knew Maggie, great person and coach. One of of her former players works for me. Definitely was a tragedy. So young.

Do midshipmen have to pay to attend home sporting events (ex. basketball)? Or is it free?

No.
Even better, it’s a duty to march over, do march on and attend home football games through the singing of Blue and Gold.
Better than that, plebes occasionally are voluntold to fill the stands at other sporting events.

I believe Mids have a certain amount deducted for football tickets or at least they used to term it that way unless they changed to a generic NAAA fee. It’s not a ton. You can walk into sporting event without paying at the door essentially.

That’s correct - along with deductions for cobbler, barber, etc., there is a deduction for stadium events they have to attend, I think. They never see the money, so it’s not something they actively pony up.

It’s probably listed in here somewhere:
