I am currently applying to the AIM program and have a few questions about the application process. When applications are received, is a lottery system used to select from the "qualified" applicants? I have read about this but am still unclear on how it works. Also, how much of a factor is it for me to turn it in earlier rather than later? Is better to spend more time and collect more letters of recommendation and maybe wait on my SAT scores, or just turn it in now?

I attended AIM last year and was specifically told that all of us were chosen and that it was not a lottery. I also turned mine on the the second to last day so I don't think that is much of a factor but I could be wrong. If you think you can strengthen your application by waiting I would definitely encourage you to.

Depends where you live. My DS went in 2017. Our area gets too many applicants that our admissions guy at the time said sometimes it did come down to just pulling qualified apps out of a pile. Seriously! But he also told our DS at a college fair the pevious October to contact him directly if he applied to AIM and he would do what he could. Sadly he has since taken another position outside the Academy.

I don’t think it’s rolling admissions. I went to AIM this past summer and the first day I was talking to some people who said they submitted they’re application literally that last minute! (I don’t recommend that) but it obviously didn’t play a role in their decision. Best of luck!

I submitted the very first day along with USAFA and USNA. Got called for all but landed up going to USCGA and USAFA due to dates issues. Don't wait till the last. My classmates from HS didn't get AIM calls but we were there for USAFA.
