So I just realized my DS put the wrong SSN number on his application. Good O'l Dad's eye's are going and thought the 9 was a zero. Is he completely screwed or should he contact his admissions counselor? I'm afraid the admissions counselor will think he lacks attention to detail?

Thank You

Obviously he needs to let them know. They need his proper SS#. Can't lose sleep over it. If it makes you feel any better. my son reversed the first and last names in the contact info for his teacher recommendations. He thought it was the end of the world for the same reasons you mentioned. He called admissions and they laughed it off. They may not laugh it off in your son's case, but he needs to let them know regardless.

Your DS, (not you) should contact admissions and have it corrected immediately. Even though Dad's eyes are going (as mine are) it is still your DS's responsibility.

Mistakes happen, and it probably won't be held against him. However if YOU make the call it can only make things worse.

If he gets an Offer of Appointment, he will have to prove he is a U.S. Citizen. I don't think that a social security card is part of the documents they want.

I recall only needing ONE of the following;
U.S. Birth Certificate
U.S. Passport
Consular Report of Birth Abroad
Certificate of Citizenship
Certificate of Naturalization.

My guess (and that's all it is) is that they haven't noticed the typo. If they noticed, they would have asked for a clarification. The admissions deadline has closed, so I don't think that they would accept any new data anyway. It does not hurt to ask if you can correct it though!

Yes, he should contact Admissions immediately, own to the errror and say it was a good lesson in attention to detail. Admissions won’t be surprised. They know the age group with which they are dealing.

If it makes you feel better my DD (national merit finalist and has a USNA appointment). Mixed up inches and yards....put she was 50in tall(4'2"). She had to call and ask to have it changed. It was no big deal. Best of Luck!

Now ... that's "Crazy Funny"!

I believe the Kids need to bring their SS Card when they report .... I would do it anyway.

I helped my son do this also (I mixed up the middle 2 numbers) and figured it out last August or September. It took calls from him to USNA admissions, DODMERB, and NROTC. He had to scan and send image of Social security card to both USNA and someone at DODMERB I believe. He still received appointment. Glad they did not hold my mistake against him. He now has his social security card, and I am no longer trusted with it!! Transitions are hard!

Isn't it amazing how difficult the smallest tasks can be, when one realizes they are committing to 9 years of their life, about to receive $450,000 (or whatever going rate is for the scholarship 'value'), and maybe move across the country for the first time? No big deal.

Boy, never been so nervous completing forms....

I laughed when I read your comment. It seems like yesterday when we were helping our DS answer the DoDMERB questions.

My wife kept saying "but what about the time he...."

Of all the forms, THAT one was the worst.

....that’s an understatement!!

There are folks like me that "Over-Salivate" after a decent sized meal .... Is it some kind of "Condition"? Sure it is, and it probably has a Name .... It surely drives my Wife crazy, my Nose running after every dinner.

But do you report things like this on a DoDMERB Medical Form .... NO .... Human's have all kinds of funny idiosyncrasies. :)

I also sneeze exactly 3 times after I take the first bite out of a piece of Chocolate ... Then No more sneezing. ... In my case, a Natural Histamine response.

I did the exact same thing for my counselor name on the Activities Record
