This has been lingering my mind for almost a year so I thought I'd ask in this forum.
Last summer, I went to NASS and in the airport (the one in my state not baltimore), I saw a huge group of plebes wearing working whites (I believe that's what the uniform is called), and the day of the 1st day in NASS was the I-day.
I was really confused because I thought that the incoming plebes are given the working whites in the naval academy during the I-day, not already wearing them before entering the academy.
Does anyone know what happened?

They were probably plebes the previous year and they didn’t start the academic sophomore year yet

NASS and Iday don’t cross paths. Maybe what you saw coincides with a summer block schedule assignment, and it was a group of Mids involved in that? Or could it have been maybe a sports team traveling? Or an admissions event?

Plebes are issued Whiteworks uniforms on I-Day at USNA.

Whiteworks are not typically seen off the confines of The Yard.
There are "Whiteworks Echo", which is what everyone will see on I-Day. They are distinguished by the white-with-blue-rim "Dixie Cup" Cover, bayonet belt, blue rim t-shirt, and white New Balance running shoes.

There are also "Whiteworks Alpha", which are distinguished by the Combination Cover, no belt, black shoes, white undershirt, and black neckerchief.

Perhaps what you saw were enlisted sailors?

Oh I think what I might have seen are the whiteworks alpha

You probably saw these:

If you were at NASS you didn’t see anyone wearing white works outside USNA. That uniform definitely doesn’t leave the yard. You could of seen some sailors traveling. Lots of military around that area. Someone can correct me, but I think those going to A school still wear uniforms a great deal.

Navy Sea Cadets also wear the “crackerjack” white uniform, with various insignia, similar to the enlisted white version. They are both distant cousins of USNA “whiteworks,” which are completely unadorned and as mentioned, don’t leave the Yard. The real tell-tale would be the Dixie cup - the one with the loathed blue stripe is only worn by plebes inside the Yard.
