What were your grades and SAT in high school to get accepted into NAPS?
My daughter applied to USNA and just received an acceptance into NAPS for class 2020. She received two nominations when she was applying. Does she have to go through whole nomination process again next year or will these still count?Hey everyone, I am currently a NAPSter (applied for class of 2022, am now Navy CO 2023) and I got appointed here around this time last year. I remember being thouroughly confused about NAPS and I did not figure out anything until actually going through it. I would have loved to have known a current NAPSter with fresh information to have answered all of my questions, so that’s what I’m opening this up for. Ask anything!
Edit: also can answer recruited athlete questions

Also, did you think the year at NAPS helped you succeed in Naval academy?
thx

Yes that is one of the reasons people will go to NapsHey MAUsna I just got the email this morning saying I got in to NAPS. Hopefully you hear back soon as well!!
I didnt receive a nom. Can i still get into NAPS?
Act 29 gpa 4.12 top 21% (recruited athlete)What were your grades and SAT in high school to get accepted into NAPS?
If you get into NAPS they see you becoming a midshipman, you just have to prove you can handle the rigors and uphold the standards they set. For me the standards seemed easy (2.2 minimum GPA, pass prt, and no significant offenses) but you would be surprised how difficult the balance can be. At NAPS we are told they make the academics harder in some aspects in order to over prepare us (which is why the gpa req is so low- we get the low grades here but are mega prepared for plebe year). Don’t worry about your nomination. Is it guaranteed to get an appointment to USNA after completing NAPS?? I've read that you need a nomination but is that all? Thank you

I have met recruited athletes who were offered NAPS. What is the percentage of non recruited athletes? Just curious. Is it guaranteed to get an appointment to USNA after completing NAPS?? I've read that you need a nomination but is that all? Thank you
There are no guarantees. The official word is that if you successfully complete the course of instruction at NAPS, you will be admitted to USNA, but there are a number of reasons you could not "successfully complete" and get an Appointment, including academics, conduct, aptitude, etc.
That being said, if you keep your nose clean and get the 2.2, you should get in.
Yes, you do need a nomination -- all NAPS candidates are required to apply for all Nominations that they are eligible for. However, if they don't get admitted off the MOC slate, they will get in with a SecNav nomination.

Continue sending admissions email updates of new volunteer hours, job promotions, leadership positions, sports accomplishments, etc. I would also throw in there if I met with someone important and things like that so they could know me more personally. I knew I would probably get into NAPS but I would send emails to admissions twice a month anyway as though I was anticipating a direct appointment and this actually made my name familiar with the board to help my overall case. Do not leave your application stagnant, ever!
