Should I contact my RC for an update on my waiver situation? I know I need to be patient but the more appointments that go out the more nervous and impatient I become. Does my RC even have any influence/knowledge about my waiver status considering it is now up to the Surgeon, USMA to review my file for a waiver? Any advice or help is appreciated!

The waiver process is slow, extremely frustrating and seems to occur in a black box. Unfortunately, once your RC puts forth your waiver, he or she has little insight in to that status until the surgeon reviews and decides on your case. Your RC will not forget about you and will give you an update as soon as they receive it (good or bad). This time of year, there are many in the same holding pattern.

My son was in a similar situation a few years ago and was anxious as well. His timeline was:
  • DQ Received December 29th
  • Waiver Requested early January
  • Waiver Approved March 21st - RC called the day the waiver was approved
  • Appointment received April 5th
If you feel the need to reach out, do it in a low key and respectful manner. Best of luck!

My DS is academically qualified, passed CFA, has primary nomination and a requested waiver since October. There were no updates on DoDMERB account and he was told nothing to do but wait. I think he said his USMA portal said to wait up to 90 to 120 days for a response. After the 120 days he contacted the RC and it was discovered that additional information was requested quite a while ago but somehow he never received the request and it did not post on his DoDMERB account. Might be worth following up on your status. Best wishes!
