Curious....What if NAPS does not have your recruited sport? Is that when you go to Foundations vs NAPS?

Congratulations to you! When do you NAPSters expect to receive your appointments? Have you been given a date or do you know when they've gotten them in previous years?

I am just a parent and not an expert, but I think candidates can get the NAPS appointment almost anytime up until the end.

Our DD got portal change to LOA - Guaranteed Appointment to NAPS on January 16th pending a Medical Qualification. The Waiver was granted on February 6th and her Portal changed to NAPS - Offer of Appointment on Friday February 8th …. She had no hesitation about Accepting her NAPS appointment on the evening of February 8th.
.
I hope I understood your question correctly? Maybe you are asking about the current NAPSter class that are seeking Appointments from RI back to Annapolis for the class of 2023 right now.

My DS was NAPS Class of 2018 and is currently a Plebe at USNA. They found out in May ( a week before graduation from NAPS) if they earned their appointment to USNA. Talk about pins and needles!

If you are referencing a current NAPSter who is awaiting their appointment to USNA this year... I would say in the next 3-6 weeks. It’s usually late April or even early May. Unless they haven’t passed the PRT or are borderline on the GPA or other requirements they usually get them as a group. If you hear a date let us know. If they are borderline for something they know it.

Continue sending admissions email updates of new volunteer hours, job promotions, leadership positions, sports accomplishments, etc. I would also throw in there if I met with someone important and things like that so they could know me more personally. I knew I would probably get into NAPS but I would send emails to admissions twice a month anyway as though I was anticipating a direct appointment and this actually made my name familiar with the board to help my overall case. Do not leave your application stagnant, ever!

Thank you for answering these questions! I’m curious when you say you kept updating your application and that you never left it stagnant. I’ve completed my application and am a CPR but it’s still possible to email admissions and update them? Or once your application is complete are you done?
Yes! It is never complete! After submitting, I sent a borderline annoying amount of emails (monthly-ish) (be careful not to send too many, sending enough will make your name familiar tho) and just always updated my new grades, championships, volunteer hours, etc. even if I met an important person I would throw that in there. I became track captain in spring after the app was due which was pretty important so I let them know stuff like that

People come to NAPS even if their sport isn’t here, but foundation is more likely for those people I think. We don’t have girls’ lax or volleyball, or sailing but we still have one or two of those athletes enrolled here

I have not received a nomination to USNA and I know that I am still in the run for NAPS based on my leadership, reputable evaluation at NASS, and other factors such as diversity. I was wondering if we would receive a TWE in the mail before offered NAPS, or would we not receive a TWE at all?

You may get an email denying you to Navy and then later on an offer to NAPS, or what happened to me is I didn’t hear my status on the academy in the end, only that I got in to prep. But they won’t send you more than one package; its either one of the two acceptances, or a declination.

I was just about to ask about sailing. It's a shame there isn't a team or club at NAPS. Do you know if there is a way to start a sailing program?

There will be plenty of sailing (mandatory during Plebe Summer) available over the four years at USNA.
Students who get into NAPS will be there for just 10 months, as they prepare academically, mentally & physically to get into the next class at USNA. NAPS emphasizes English Composition, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Information Technology in its curriculum. I doubt that any student would have time for a sailing club, given that most of their time is already spoken for. ;)

Newport is a massive sailing community. If you want to learn to sail you can on the weekends. NAPS is small. They don’t have enough students, staff, equipment to support tons of sports. They have some core ones. Even then they still recruit guys who aren’t football recruits but played in high school to help round out the NAPS squad. The women’s basketball team often has volleyball recruits on it at NAPS to help round out the roaster. It’s a numbers game. If someone is a recruit and their sport isn’t there I am sure they get a workout plan from the coaches at USNA to prepare.

The base in Newport where NAPS is located has a very active sailing facility with a variety of boats available. Over the years, they have had a couple of former USNA racing dinghys that were used by the intercollegiate team in the past and they were sent up for NAPS. I haven't looked for them in the last couple of years but even if they are not there, there are boats available for you at the base marina and usually some access to racing.
As a former USNA sailing coach, I can tell you that I raced at the base in Newport off and on when I was there and often had former fellow coaches, teammates and even former Olympians to race against at times.

Well there you go. I stand corrected. :)

DS is a dinghy and off shore sailor and coach . He has a varsity sport he loves too. so He’d have plenty to choose from just sailing is a passion. Thank you for the information. Fingers crossed as he is still CPR

Most Naval Stations with a harbor have an MWR recreational sailing program.

There is also a NAPS sponsor family program, see link. I don’t know what the NAPSter side of the questionnaire looks like, but if there is a special request area, a request could possibly be put in for a family involved in sailing.

And at some point in your career you might get stationed at a base that has Land Sailing! ;)
