Still Waiting

The interesting thing is that our DS status still shows App on File even though he received the call from his MOC on Monday and received the Fedex package with congrats letter yesterday ... the letter included in the Fedex mentions that the portal will update after a couple of days of letter receipt. His status never showed 'Hold'.

wait it came Fed Ex? Ive been checking the mailbox.. LOL

DS has NOMs to USAFA and KP but and was told He was a perfect candidate for PREP on multiple occasions. Still on HOLD. Plan B (NROTC) was denied already but was accepted to LSU (GEaux Tigers) and LA Tech. Proceeding with Plan C until further notice.

Our son's letter came via Fedex too. That was a few days before the portal changed.

Geaux Tigers! My alma mater!

DS Still on hold. How many appoints do you believe have been made to date? What I see on another thread looks like 23 states have appoints offered and 17 Accepted, 7 declined and 20 still undecided. But that is only those reporting on this forum. Is there typically a lot of admissions activity during the coming week? I see on other threads that appointments can still be made up to June.

Plenty of appointments remain to go out. You will see more offers in late March through early April. Then there is usually another batch in early May after they see what the yield is (accepted offers). Then a few more will trickle out through May and even June. Hang in there.

In a previous thread, I read that USMMA gives 40 administrative acceptances? What does that mean and who are they used on?

I was denied last year from hold status to "qualified not accepted" so I chose to apply again this year and I was placed on HOLD and received an email about it. Checked my status about a week ago and my HOLD status is no longer there anymore. It's just blank next to "application status".....weird.

Any update?

To those waiting, this is the worst part. Be patient. Our son did not find out he was accepted until he received a phone call from his Congressman when he was in class at high school on April 28th. Many more were notified after that through early May.

Sorry the waiting is wrong especially going into April some May. You are taking these kids at this point because the academy can’t fill a slot because some declined. Not buying it’s competitive at this point. Maybe at beginning but not now. How can someone not feel second best.

I still think a slot is a slot though. And even if an appointment is given later, it doesnt mean it's a pity appointment. An appointment is and appointment, no matter how late or early. I know the wait sucks, but I think it'll all be worth it!

Second best?! These academies are so competitive to get into. When the new students are there, nobody talks about, nobody CARES about, who got their appointment in January and who got their appointment in June. It's a huge accomplishment no matter what the timing and an applicant who receives his/her appointment in June should be just as proud as one who receives it earlier. No, the waiting isn't easy but life isn't either.

I don't recall ever hearing that someone with a late or "alternate" appointment being considered as second best in any way. Again, in the old days. . . on that first day of Indoc, name tags were issued. Most were custom made, and etched. Those with late appointments had Dymo Label names on blank name tags. They were certainly never treated any different. . . . we were ALL lower than whale dung. . . ..

I have a concern about our DS committing to plan B, making plans (dorms, uniforms, TWIC card), and then having to back out if/when he receives an USMMA appointment. Any advice?

I guess that depends what Plan B is. He'll need a TWIC card for USMMA too. I know this has got to be so hard. If Plan B requires a deposit you may just have to eat that cost if he gets an appointment to USMMA. Is it very much?

The money lost on deposits is not really a big deal because he will be getting so much more in return. I am concerned about changing the TWIC card. Don't you have to list the academy as the employer? Seems like it may be a pain to change it if he switches. We've all been doing a lot of soul searching in our house as we wait.

Many Plan B schools will refund your deposit. I would wait until close to the Plan B deadline to place deposits, then do it if you have to. Even if you lose a deposit, it is a small price to pay for the opportunity to attend a service academy.

Ah, I did not know that about the TWIC card. . . I'll defer to someone else who can give better advice than me LOL.

I just renewed my TWIC card while working at a different employer than where I was when it was issued. The question never came up in the renewal process, nor was I ever told to update my employer if it changed when the first TWIC was issued. I don't see any issue getting a TWIC if both your options require one.

Unfortunately no. Still does not show a status for me and I have emailed my admissions officer about a week ago and still have nothing from them.
