SLE not selected

Hi, I found out I wasn't accepted to SLE this morning (not super surprised, I haven't taken the ACT yet) Just wanted to know if SLE is a strong factor when it comes to admission?

I've heard some people say it is and say it isn't, just wondering how admissions weighs going to SLE.
 
Don't worry about it. Move on with your application. Put effort into getting a great SAT or ACT score and doing well on the CFT.
There are so many reasons that students do or do not get accepted to SLE.
Do not think about it again...move on.

Edited to include: One of my cadets was accepted to SLE, the other cadet was not accepted to SLE. So, from a sample of two, the results were 50/50 for SLE with 100% acceptance.
 
The summer programs such as SLE are primarily a marketing tool to raise awareness of the academies to prospective mids and cadets.
 
Attending SLE has zero effect on your chance of admission. It is used to show candidates if they feel they would like to attend. I was told by many that if I had to choose between boys state and sle to go to boys state since it improves your candidate score for leadership. I attended both but don’t worry.
 
Without a doubt and if not too late apply to Boys State. As others have said, SLE has no bearing on acceptance.
 
So, I'm going to take a slightly different viewpoint here. My DS did attend SLE and is now a Plebe. My DD was just rejected today from SLE with similar stats but slightly lower SAT scores. It's a very competitive process. I believe that SLE gives the opportunity to interview with a cadet. I was also under the impression that once a candidate was accepted to SLE, they had a 50% chance (statistically) of receiving an appointment. I'm not sure if that holds true. My older DD attended NASS and did not receive an appointment to USNA. Either way, DD is excited about continuing with the application process. It was disappointing, but it did not sway her.
 
I am pretty certain that attending SLE does not contribute at all to your overall scoring while Boys State does. My DS did not get into SLE but less than a year later was an early January acceptance. My advice, keep plugging.
 
One didn't and the other did...one graduated last year one graduating this year.

Not a deal breaker one way or the other.

There is value in attending but it's different for each applicant.

At the end of the day...no worries if you didn't get a slot...keep plugging away and best of luck!
 
Attending any of the Summer programs at any of the academies is for marketing purposes only! It has no bearing on earning an appointment. As it has been stated before Boys/Girls State does give you points in your WCS (Whole Candidate Score). It has been said Boys/Girls State gives you as many points as an Eagle Scout for boys. Not sure this is exactly true but you do get a bump in points for Boys/Girls State. Folks Boys/Girls State is for leadership. Academy Summer programs are for marketing.
 
This is over 10 years ago but I remember them telling us (about 500 attendees) that roughly half of us would statistically go on to get appointments
 
All this 50% stuff may be true. But let’s not confuse this with causality. Coincidence is more like it. SA admissions offices say often and loud: summer sessions have no bearing on offer of appointment.

And yes, cadets and midshipmen do write evaluations of attendees. But that is a training tool only, giving them a chance to assess others as they might on active duty. It does not factor into admissions, as execution of this sort of thing is spotty, reflecting the inexperience of the evaluators.
 
Bruh I got rejected from SLE and NASS. Got into 3 academies though.

Don't give up. Your blessing awaits!! Make USMA regret that they didn't choose you.

TIME TO PUT IN SOME WORK! CRUNCH TIME. :rockon::mad:

My 2022 did not even apply to SLE. For my 2023, SLE was extremely helpful (personally) in comparing options. It helped clarify the choice to pursue an appointment.
 
@Dadx4 Hey, Dad of 4...here is the deal. Your family already has a kid at USMA. The assumption is that your family knows the admissions process and expectations as well as about life as a plebe/cadet...putting the next kid in the 'doesn't need it' category for SLE.
 
With siblings at the Academy it is not needed. Try to get to Boys State , do SAT,ACR and CFA prep
 
SLE counts for nothing on your admissions in terms of points. Its a nice add on, but not crucial. Attending boys/girls state, maxing your CFA, eaglescout etc hold actual admissions points.
