Next appointment rush?

If you look back through the posts of a lot of the people who have heard in the last couple of days several seem to be principal noms. (Not that I'm obsessively combing through everyone's posts for a morsel of comfort, oh no....)

It stands to reason that USAFA scoops up the LOA's first, and the athletes, then the principal noms (who they have to appoint if qualified) as they try to piece the jigsaw puzzle together of who is going to attend in 2023.

So I figure we are just at the principal nom stage. Sometime after that comes the national pool, then the waiting list (for places that get turned down).

It's a process.
To me it seems to be slightly different. Turn backs from last year obviously here first, then LOA folks, then as I saw it and through people I’ve talked to, those who had their application done on or before 1 November (early action of sorts) get their appointments, then preppies and falcon scholars, and last but not least regular applicants. The only reason I disagree with your bit on principal noms is because I am a principal nom and haven’t heard anything yet.

Just remember that while we may be able to decipher a little bit, it doesn’t come close to how complex it is for admissions to fit everyone in. Appointments could be released everyday from now until 15 April, some of us who maybe don’t get in could still get an appointment for ‘23 before it’s too late! Best of luck to those still waiting, I feel your pain. I know it sucks when you see everyone else posting how they got in, or when your friends have their appointments in hand and you’re still anxiously checking your portal and your inbox.
Carm23, have you heard anything yet? Just wondering because you got a principal nom....have you asked your ALO for any more intel?

Nothing yet. I’ve communicated with my ALO a little, but he was promoted to full bird a few months ago and is transitioning to a new duty station so emails have been few and far between. I’ve been trying not to bother him too much with all my questions and instead turning to the forums. I’ve been talking with another guy from my district and neither of us have heard anything so I think it’s just that they haven’t reviewed our districts slate yet.

Some info worth sharing. It’s from a reputable source.

“There will be more appointments coming in over the next three Monday and Tuesday's for about three weeks starting on the 25th. to about April the 9th...”

For anyone who hasn’t heard yet, it seems like Monday’s and Tuesday’s are the days to expect some sort of news. TWE’s will be sent out starting in mid April

I could have given you that same information and I'm not even a reputable source. Of course more appointments are coming in the next three weeks, and just because the information is available on a Monday or Tuesday, that doesn't mean you will find out then depending on your MOCS procedures, etchh. Sorry, can't help myself. Patience people.

I think the Monday Tuesday information is helpful because you know to check your portal twice or thrice that day and then don't expect to hear on other days. Also helps to keep your mind off it. I guess it's different for everyone.

Except the first person to hear will normally be the MOC and they get a couple or a few days to notify you before it shows up on the portal.

Most MOCs don't notify ahead of time - including mine. If I did have a MOC that called I wouldn't check the portal as much so I get what you're saying.

Well that’s good news ! DS is waiting as well but we are in a competitive nom district and they submit an open slate so certainly more nebulous for us!

You are missing the process. It doesn’t matter if the MOC notifies or not. Step 1: Offer is approved. Step 2: nomination sources is notified. Step 3: 72 hour hold to allow notification. Only after the 72 hours, will FFR Reps see the data, BFEs be mailed and your portal update.

College re-applicants are not reviewed until the academy receives first semester transcripts from the college so this is typically the later group to get evaluated. If they seem competitive on a slate, the slate will not be resolved until everything is received or the application due date happens. They also have the opportunity to earn extra WCS/WPS points during the evaluation process. The successful semester of college give re-applicants an advantage in the process and why you will hear that academies love re-applicants.

My DS is a re-applicant, top 3 in his AFROTC detachment, a D1 athlete, and earned a 4.0 his first semester at a state University, so this was good to read.
This was similar to my daughter who was a reapplication. Does he have a ROTC Nomination as well?

Hey all future USAFA cadets. I remember coming on here many years ago. I wanted to come on here and address this MOC misconception stated above. This forum is a great place to find answers sometimes. However I see it is as I remember. Sometimes some are on here lecturing about patients and they have none and are very critical of the questions. Telling others to search or be patients etc. Good for all of you for asking the questions.

The other night seven of us went out and this subject came up by a person who follows this forum. We talked about our appointments 3-4 years ago and how we received notification. None of the seven of us received a call from our MOC and we are all from different States. While I am sure some do call I would think most do not. We all found out first by an early morning email telling us to check our portal or our parents who checked our portal before we got up and then woke us up! Point being don't expect a call, but if you do get a call great. I remember my waiting was agony! I thought I would find out by Christmas and didn't find out until April. Congratulations and best of luck.

Hi, newbie here. OK, I'm confused as to how my DD will be notified of an appointment. I've heard so many different things...can someone please clarify for me? Thanks so much!

Notices of appointments go out after the MOC has been notified of their nominees acceptance, which means the admissions office probably times it so that the USAFA admissions email goes out after the obligatory 72 hours that a MOC has to notify their people. So if notices of appointments go out Monday’s and Tuesday’s I think the MOC would find out Friday before.
