ROTC Scholarships basis for appealing school decisions?

Hello,

I have received lots of college decisions over the past month and I have been waitlisted at many of my top schools, including RPI and UW. I have full 4 year ROTC scholarships through the Navy and the Army and a partial scholarship through the Air Force. I did well my first semester of my senior year and I got a 3.83 GPA while taking 5 AP classes. Is it worth the effort to appeal to some of these schools?

It may be worth it, especially if you remind them that you are holding an NROTC and AROTC full tuition scholarship.

Some schools may pluck you out of the waitlist crowd, specifically because NROTC and AROTC usually will pay for the full rack rate of the tuition.

That is financially meaningful to the institution....and no bribes required! :p

DS is in a similar boat with his #1 school. He spoke to the battalion and they said to call back when he has the NROTC scholarship in hand and they might be able to do something for him.

Good luck.

Haha yeah that’s always a plus nowadays right? I’ll give them a call and see what happens

Thanks, I really hope it works out because right now I’ve only been accepted into Santa Clara and they don’t have Navy or Air Force which would be nice. Good luck to you too!

Last year DS was in similar situation with RPI. He was waitlisted there but had rec’d AROTC scholarship. He notified admissions and within 2-3 it changed to accepted. I cannot say for sure if informing the school of the scholarship factored into the change but it didn’t seem to hurt:) Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! Yesterday I was informed that I was accepted to my first choice school so I don’t think I will appeal my decisions after all. The school I was accepted to has an amazing unit and I got some pretty good aid so my mind is made up :)

Now to wait for the academies...
