DS unfortunately received the TWE yesterday (no portal change yet) he had a rush of sadness and disappointment but I'm happy to say that it didn't last long. He is disappointed that he won't be an Old Grad like his brother but he is determined to be an Officer in the Army. He even said he will do it his way and he is excited to have closed the USMA dream and concentrate on being an outstanding member of the AROTC Ram Battalion at Fordham University! DS has a 3 year scholarship and is accepted to the Gabelli School of Business. He is hoping to branch infantry and Post to 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg like his Grandpa. Good luck to all you guys and gals still waiting on USMA, I wish you all the best!

I am sorry, but I see a bright future ahead! How did he find out if it wasn't posted?

Sorry about the TWE.
Kudos to your boy for Fordham and for the Army ROTC scholarship! Wow! He will have a great experience!
May all of his paratrooper dreams come true! Go Army!

If he truly wants to attend West Point he should apply again. Both are good routes, however. He will be just down the Hudson from his brother.

Second that! DS is just finishing his freshman year using AROTC Scholarship, but will be plebe at USMA next year. He applied again, had a ROTC nom in addition to MOCs, made Dean’s list, and had full support of PMS. He’s beyond excited but is thankful for his freshman year. He calls it his prep year. Good luck!

This is the exact route my DS took. He graduates in 2 months!

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement, DS will probably reapply however as a parent I'm not sure if I'm in favor of that. Older DS is a 2017 WP Grad so he is out in the Army and that is something he loves, so I'm for getting that commission to 2nd Lieutenant as quickly as possible. The Prep/College route is terrific for preparing cadets for the killer core courses of plebe and yuk year if West Point is the absolute end all be all dream, but there are many terrific schools to choose for AROTC. The goal is to get those Lieutenant bars and even though DS is super gung ho to be an Army leader, as a parent I like the fact that ROTC is a 4 year Army commitment with 4 reserve. Don't get me wrong I hope both my boys become career officers in the Army but if DS goes to Fordham he could begin his civilian career 2 full years earlier than if he reapplied to WP and was accepted. Remember this is me thinking all these scenarios not DS, neither one of my boys are looking to 5 and fly however I don't think there is anything wrong with that choice. Good luck and thanks again for the kind words of encouragement.

Give MMI in Alabama a look. The best self prep program for reapplicants and they offer a 2 year early commissioning program as well.

@mom3boys - wow! I'm honored DS is following the same path as your DS! On a side note, a friend who has a firstie just gave me your book this past weekend & I can't wait to read it!! Thanks for sharing your wisdom & experiences.

DS just received his TWE this evening. Time to work his plan B (ROTC) very seriously. Our older DS went to MMI on an AOG last year and is currently a plebe. He never got a TWE, just the AOG offer in April. Before current applicant DS got his TWE he emailed his RC about interest in an AOG. Does anyone know if the TWE closes the AOG door, or could he still be offered an AOG?

BTW, I know a Cadet who was finally accepted to West Point during his junior year. Walked away from ROTC one year from commissioning because he really wanted to be part of the Long Gray Line.
Probably one of the happiest, most well adjusted Cadets I know and he’s crushing it academically. He knows what he gave up and has no regrets.

DS got his TWE in the mail on Monday. He was disappointed but did get ROTC, AFROTC,and USAFA, so he can not hang his head too low. He fully understands the amazing opportunities he has been given! Now to decide.

DS also received USMA TWE on Monday (btw, I thought the letter was one of the best "decline" letters I have ever read). He has 2 great AROTC options to consider on opposite sides of the country (though he still has to get medical waivers from cadet command). It has been a long process, but we will know in a few weeks where he decides to attend.

So TWE only comes in the mail? No pdf under official correspondence like everything else?
