AROTC 3rd board results are posted!

Yep, DS and DD say B/UC as well. I am beginning to think that this is not a good thing.

My son's status hasn't changed from B/UC.

Will the candidates receive an email when their status is updated? Or does he need to keep checking his account online? (Between this and the waiting for college decisions stress I'll be happy when it's all over.)

I'm hoping they update it either way - with a Yes or a No - and not keep it in the B/UC limbo.

Your son won't receive an email from any of the schools regarding the scholarship unless he is awarded one. The best way to check is through his online portal. If your son does not receive a scholarship the status will remain B/UC for a while, eventually he will be notified that he was not selected. If his status does not change by the end of today then it is most likely he did not receive a scholarship. Cadet Command for the past few years have released all the updates at one time.

This is not saying that he will not be contacted by any of the battalions he listed. After the dust settles on this year's boards the ROO's may start to reach out to applicants that did not receive scholarship but they would like to have join their battalion. If not selected your son should continue to keep in touch with the battalion he wishes to attend. There is always the opportunity to compete for a battalion scholarship once he starts ROTC providing they have some available. There are many cadets that start ROTC without a scholarship only to be offered one later. Start school and ROTC strong.

Then they all have to get through the DoDMERB. Good luck to all that are past the first gate . Don't get hurt along the way.

+1 @AlwaysAProudParent

Congratulations to all the awardees!

Remember: Not a dime gets paid to your college until:
  • You pass DoDMERB
  • You pass the APFT (2-2-2) (start running)
  • You maintain good college grades that first year (for those with 3 year scholarships).

4 year ARMY Winners - must enter school with atleast 2.0 GPA
3 year ARMY Winner - Must have a 2.5 or better after the completion of their first college academic year.

So 3 year winners don't let those Calc or Physic classes if you are taking this Fresh year drag you down.

When does the DoDMERB usually take place? My S has a minor knee injury and will be having arthroscopic surgery in May/June. He was awarded a 3 year but school gives free room and board for 4 years with the scholarship

Once he has his winner letter in hand It will say you are not medically qualified. And until that point you can not receive any benefits. I would schedule that process once the paper mail shows up. My son did and got a denial but his issue was was small and it luckily just took a letter from a specialist and it was cleared in 1 day.

Not sure what you mean. Schedule which process, the DoDMERB? Could we do it after the surgery?

Given the fact that your DS has a 3 year, he doesn't have to pass DoDMERB until the second year. However the free R & B complicates matters. I would definitely have your son reach out to the ROO at the college battalion and explain his upcoming surgery. They will likely work with him, but chances are fair that even if he waits until next summer to do the DoDMERB, that he will be DQ'd and need to obtain a waiver given the recent nature of the surgery.

Good luck!

Hi,

I have been awarded a 4-Year scholarship to 2 schools. What are the requirements for DodMerb (which I have already taken) and some of the next overall steps?

You are ahead of the game if you already have undergone the DoDMERB exam.
  1. Follow the instructions that your award letter contains.
  2. Focus on killing the APFT. No money will be paid until you pass DoDMERB and pass the APFT.
  3. Contact the ROO at your school of choice and find out when their orientation is for ROTC this summer.
  4. Repeat #2
Congratulations!

To those that are bummed that it didn't switch to winner, it might be a good idea to reach out to the school you will attend without a scholarship and notify the ROO (hopefully it was also on you list so they should already know you are out there), that while you did not receive a scholarship you plan on attending in the Fall and will enroll in ROTC. And remember, there are still campus based scholarships out there. Almost all schools (I saw almost because it has happened prior to freshman year but very rarely), will want you to show up, work hard, before evaluating you for a campus based. But let it be know you are coming, serious and ready!

I don't understand - what has happened prior to freshman year? My understanding was if scholarships weren't awarded while in high-school the earliest he could get one while attending college would be for his sophomore year.

There have been occasions where a battalion will make a scholarship offer to someone that did not receive an offer from the national boards prior to the start of the freshman year. Some have received offers of a 4 year once they start their freshman year and some are offered a 3.5 year at the end of the first semester. This all depends on the individual battalion and whether they have offers to extend and if they choose to make those offers early. This doesn't happen often but it does happen.

Hello!
My status has been updated to winner, but I am confused as to whether or not I was supposed to receive an award letter (as some of the previous posts seem to suggest). Am I not supposed to accept the scholarship now?
Thanks in advance.

The official letter will be coming in the mail, it will include instructions for accepting the scholarship. You have 30 days from the date they post on the letter to accept the scholarship.

There may be a link to the letter on your page, but you will still receive one in the regular mail.
