AROTC 3rd board results are posted!

Just to let everybody know who might be waiting. DS got an e-mail from Cadet Command this afternoon letting him know that he had been selected for a 2-yr ECP scholarship. DD has no news at this point.

[QUOTE="dozer2000,

For ARMY candidates with B/ UC... I HOPE the Army waits on:

1). Candidates that also applied to Academy
2). Candidates that also applied for Navy or Air Force ROTC Scholarships.
3). Candidates that might not pass the DODMERB.

I hope Cadet Command uses Remaining B/ UC as their wait list...
to see if anyone doesn’t accept the Army Scholarship because of college preferences or can’t pass the DODMERB. This might give others on the B/ UC another chance.

Yesterday DS’s Portal status remained B/UC. Today when i try to go into the application it says “General Error”. Is that like the application was virtually tossed into the circular file???

I think site is just down. My DDs is showing the same thing and she was just going in to print off a copy of her winner letter. Keeps getting General error too.

Final results for my DS:
USCGA - No (turns out they were not entirely truthful when they said they want "well rounded leaders and athletes...not just good GPAs")
AROTC - 3 year scholarship to VMI or Benedictine College + athletic money (he only applied to the third board due to a later decision, so wondering if there weren't very many 4-year scholarships left?)
NROTC - 4 year scholarship to VMI + athletic money

So it looks like Navy at VMI. Sorta makes this old Cav Trooper proud. Good luck to all the next generation of leaders; both those going in and those re-applying next year.

My S has a minor knee injury and will be having arthroscopic surgery in May/June.

Given the fact that your DS has a 3 year, he doesn't have to pass DoDMERB until the second year. However the free R & B complicates matters. I would definitely have your son reach out to the ROO at the college battalion and explain his upcoming surgery. They will likely work with him, but chances are fair that even if he waits until next summer to do the DoDMERB, that he will be DQ'd and need to obtain a waiver given the recent nature of the surgery.

Good luck!

I agree with AROTC-dad on this. My daughter's school was the same way, 4 year room and board for 3 year winners. That did not get processed until after the ROTC HRA let the school know she had passed the APFT and was DODMERB qualified.

At the end of the day, there is no way to get around whatever they decide, the worst case scenario would be that you might be on the hook for the first semester of the room and board, not ideal, but a possibility. And remember, his service and becoming an officer is a marathon not a sprint, and these little hiccups won't take that away! In the middle of my daughter's journey we had a hiccup where she was on admin suspension due to a major change (and scholarship type change), and we had to pay for a semester we had not planned to, not ideal, but doable. She is back on scholarship and will graduate and commission next May. Good luck to your son @tgtl and keep us posted!

That's not really how it works. Once the third board has completed the award notifications the national scholarship process is basically over. There have been times when Cadet Command will offer a scholarship to a WP applicant that did not get an appointment but did not apply for the AROTC Scholarship. For those scholarships that are declined the money for those scholarships is usually put back into the system. This is where the Brigades get some of the money to be able to distribute to battalions so they can offer battalion scholarships to cadets in their program. Every year you see cadets from various battalions that receive an upgrade to an existing scholarship or are offered a battalion scholarship once they start the program. This is why it's important that a new cadet start strong in their program so they can be in the running for what scholarships may be available through the battalion. There is no national waiting list for those that do not receive a scholarship by the third board.

Site is back up but he is still B/UC> disappointing!

Good Evening All,

My DD status went from B/UC to Boarded about a week or so ago. Now it has changed to “eligible”. The page looks totally different with the only options listed are either “disqualified, pending consideration, eligible, and winner” Anyone else out there with the same status?

So I’m confused. When I login to my account it won’t let me view my application, and on the screen it tells me that “the deadline to make an application has passed”??? I can’t check my status and I’m really anxious to see if I’ve been awarded the scholarship. Anyone know what’s going on?

If you look at the bottom of that notice, you will see a link that says 2019-2020. Click it and you will be taken to your application.

After all is said and done in the next few months after AROTC Scholarships are accepted and declined, kids choosing SA over ROTC, is it possible that a 3 year award could be upgraded to 4 year Scholarship? Has this happened in past years?

Yes. It happened to me a couple days ago

Yes, it is possible to have a 3 year upgraded to 3.5 or 4 years. I believe some are upgraded by Cadet Command, but quite a few also are upgraded after the semester begins at the battalion level.

My DS was a "walk-on" to Army ROTC (no scholarship) and earned a 3 year within three months by busing his rear-end and getting good grades plus working hard at ROTC. Within four more months they upgraded the 3 year to 3.5 year.

How this is handled varies by battalion, so speak to your ROO about the chances.

Thanks DS will reach out to the ROO

My DD received a 3 year but it listed a school that was her 3rd of three choices that she did not apply for. We have submitted a transfer to her preferred school. Any thoughts or tips at this point? We are going to contact the ROO tomorrow.

My son was in a similar situation some years back. He had been accepted on an early action basis months before submitting his AROTC application and never applied to any other schools. When the mystifying scholarship offer for a local college arrived months later, we began the transfer process. We also attempted to contact the ROO, who was inaccessible, for reasons unknown, and then the PMS, who said my son was fifth on the list, with the first three likely to attend service academies.

In addition I described the problem to the guidance counselor at my son's high school. She thought it might be possible to use some pull and get my son admitted to the scholarship school even though it was well beyond the school's application deadline. Fortunately, the transfer came through. If it hadn't, I suspect that my son would have enlisted in the Marines with one of his buddies.

Hopefully, your daughter's preferred school is not more expensive than the scholarship school.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the only school she applied to is more expensive.
