My DS did not receive an offer of appointment to USNA but is still waiting to hear back about the Navy ROTC scholarship. Are others still waiting as well? Can anyone shed a bit more light on the timeline for this? Thanks in advance for your help.

My DD is also still waiting to hear about NROTC.
 
I have received both an AF and a NROTC Scholarship offer, but am still CPR for USNA with a Nom. I don’t know when the last board for NROTC is but I’m sure you should hear before too long.
 
DD is in at naval but undecided. She did get about NROTC scholarship way back in November but hasn't been medically cleared. I might reach out. After her waiver was granted at USNA we assumed it was just a matter of time before she got the waiver from NROTC. After 2 additional weeks she contacted DODMERB. They had her contact NROTC. Apparently the medical information was not transferred to the correct agency. It has now been transferred on and we hope to hear by the end of the week. Lots of red tape and better safe than sorry. I think the second board results were around Jan 23rd. That is when my son found out.
 
My DS is also waiting to hear back about NROTC scholarship. He received his TWE this past Thursday with the mass.
He has received a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship (that he will use as Type 2/3 year at an OOS school) and as of right now is still Candidate status (but medical DQ for braces- even though he is getting them removed at his 4/23 appt!) at USAFA.

In our experience last year, DS received USNA and NROTC 4 year scholarship “not this year” portal updates in early and mid April last year respectively. He went ahead and enrolled in NROTC program at one of the schools he had applied for scholarship. Fast forward a year, with appointment in hand, he was also awarded the 4 year NROTC scholarship. Yes, we would have received reimbursement for this year’s tuition had he accepted the scholarship instead of Naval Academy.
The bottom line is that all schools are trying hard to have this wrapped up for the kids and parents as much as they need it wrapped up by May 1.
 
There are several boards for the NROTC scholarship (2 in the fall and 4 in the spring IIRC) so you could hear any time now. The NROTC scholarship uses a rolling admissions process similar to USNA. If you aren't picked up by the first board after you applied, they will keep evaluating your package until they feel comfortable making a decision.
 
I'm not sure exactly when my DS received his NROTC Scholarship last year, however it was several weeks after his TWE which was right before the 15-Apr-18 deadline. I'm guessing 1st or 2nd week of May? Thankfully, he was diligent in his USNA pursuit, re-applied and offered an appointment. Best of luck

I was rooting for your DS. Hoping to see some Massachusetts representation at USNA. My DD received her NROTC in January. She was looking at BU. Strange thing, she didn’t get accepted. 4.5 GPA, VERY strong leadership skills, 1340 SAT and BU had the scholarship in hand! Luckily for her she was offered and accepted an appoint to USAFA.

DD still waiting on the Academy as well. She received her NROTC congratulatory email today! So plan B is at Texas A&M and NROTC is firmly in place.
 
Once a ROTC Scholarship is attained, can it be used for a school outside of the 5 listed on scholarship app ?

If yes, how does this process work ?
 
According to the email DS received when he was awarded his NROTC scholarship, you are not restricted to the five schools- you can place the scholarship at any school that has NROTC or is a cross-town affiliate (provided you are admitted, of course).

The short answer is yes. My DS listed UVA as his first of the five he requested. He was wait listed at UVA, and He did not have Texas A&M as one of his five. He applied for Texas A&M and was accepted. He had to request the transfer of his NROTC scholarship from the Navy office in Florida, and it was granted.

So reapplying to other schools (with rolling admission) is an option? Hopefully there’s time to get this done. Just received the NROTC scholarship notification this week ...

Would your DS consider reapplying to his #1 (UVA) next year and rolling over NROTC from Texas A&M ? Feasible / possible to do ? Is this Frowned upon ?

That was actually last year, sorry for not stating that properly. He is currently at Texas A&M on his NROTC Contract (Scholarship). He reapplied to USNA this year, and was offered an appointment. He accepted USNA last week
 
DD turned down by NROTC still CPR with a Nom from USNA Plan B AFROTC at UK!!

BIG congrats on the USNA ! Trying not to bypass the NROTC 4yr Scholarship (so glad it came, although it came late and now is racing the clock for a school. Plan is to then reapply for USNA too)

You need permission to transfer a scholarship from one college to another once you are enrolled in the program. Permission is often not granted. FOlks sometime transfer anyway with loss of scholarship.
