I'm making plans for picking up my C/C in May and taking him back out in June. Car rentals- where are the best deals?! Any tips?

Be aware that there are airport car rentals available and also those same companies have offices that are not at the airport but are substantially cheaper rate per day. Depending on the time that you arrive it may be okay to take public transport and get to the cheaper locations. You do need to read the fine print when booking or confirm location on google maps before finalizing.

  • Confirm with your car insurance agent (prior to p/u rental) that your present coverage also covers your rental so you don't need to purchase car rental insurance.
  • We have AAA & rented thru them.
  • Bring your GPS with you. Plot the directions to hotel to not using toll roads as some rental company's will assess a daily charge for the provided E-Z pass device if used.
  • Gas up rental prior to return.
  • Enjoy!!

Not necessarily the cheapest but I prefer National out of DIA. Easiest to deal with and good service.

If I remember correctly, Cadets are allowed to rent cars and they get good rates. I think it may be Enterprise, and my son was paying $ 25/day. He graduated in 2014, it may be a little more by now.

I once waited 2 hours for a car at budget cars at Denver airport on a USAFA parents weekend. I will stick with my original google review and would not recommend them, unless they are having a free lease event:)

@charlestonmom5 : @BBBRRRTT is right about long waits for cars before Parents Weekend. For May though, you should be good.
FYI Read up on making reservations for PW; spoiler alert: now is the time to make them! Congrats & enjoy!

Correction, my 2 hour wait-experience was with dollar-thrifty, sorry budget, my bad. Dollar-thrifty also overcharged by 175 on that instance as well.

Yeah. There was a long line at Avis last year during Parents Weekend. There was food truck there selling burgers and water bottles-genius!
We have since become Avis members so we can skip the lines!

Have heard only good things about Costco Travel.
