I know there are quite a bit of post about vision limits, but nobody really posts their results so it is quite difficult to see where I'm standing at the moment.

Vision is -8.25 and -8.375. Cleared for Army ROTC. From my understanding USMA's standards are higher and they tend to stick near the -8.00 diopter mark. How favorable are my chances in your opinion?

*I do understand that a vast majority of you are not doctors, but if you wanna help quell some my anxiety from waiting anything helps!*

dedtf -- have you been through DoDMERB, gotten a DQ for your vision not meeting the -8.00/+8.00 diopter standard, and have received a medical waiver from AROTC?

AROTC and USMA standards are the same for visual acuity, refraction, etc...

What is your eye glasses prescription?

The standard is no worse than -8.00 diopters spherical equivalent. To come up with spherical equivalent, we need to see how much astigmatism you have also.

It seems the -8.25 and -8.375 you provided could be just the sphere portion of your eye glasses prescription (we also need the cylinder portion). However, you did mention -8.375 which could mean the numbers you provide could actually be spherical equivalent. The cylinder portion of your eye glasses prescription is the amount of lenses power needed to correct any astigmatism you may have.

In general, any diopter between -8.00 and -10.00 is waiverable provided the rest of your eye exam, to include a retinal exam, is normal. Your retina (back of the eye) must not have any abnormalities such as retinal tears, holes, lattice degeneration, etc...

High myopes (like you) are at increased risk for retinal pathology and retinal detachment.

The Army does the entire spherical equivalent and half of the cylindrical equivalent. This results in my wonky numbers. My spherical (prescription) equivalent is -7.00 and -7.25

Yes I have. I think that is a good sign, am I correct?

Also, forgot to mention that I do not have any retinal pathology such as lattice degeneration or tears.

Ok. Makes sense. Like I mentioned in my previous post, there was a possibility the -8.375 is already spherical equivalent because, like you said, it is a wonky number.

You should be waiverable then for USMA and AROTC.

Thanks for making my anxiety go from an 80% to a solid 25%! Also GoCubbies, I hope your username is referring to the Chicago Cubs. If so, "Baseball season's underway. Go Cubs Go!"
