I applied to NASS and am aware that it also serves as a Pre-Candidate Questionare. Does anyone know what time of the year you will be notified about your status as an official candidate?

If and when you get the email, it will be called the "ECandidate Packet Letter", or words to that effect.
It will have your class of 2024 login name and password information (which gets you past the first web page).

It will also include your 6-digit candidate number.
As a candidate, you will get into the Candidate Information System with your;
First Name
Last Name
Last four digits of your Social Security Number
Candidate Number

Last year, it was EMailed on May 9th.

Just as a heads up as well, make sure you check your junk folders, spam folders, and so on because I found my candidate information in my junk folder for both cycles.

UPDATE : I just received an email from USNA and was notified that I was waitlisted :( but I was notified that I have been promoted to an Official Candidate and that I will get an email in Mid-May on how to continue with my application for the class of 2024 :).

Interesting. My son just got his rejection for NASS (but he was fortunate to have participated in CVW in March) and the following info about the next step was included. Weird that they didn't use the terminology official candidate as @kevs mentioned in the waitlist letter.

Relax...it's way to early to start trying to read between the lines of everything Admissions writes. Sounds like there is a different message for Wait list and NASS rejection; possibly written by two different LT's without coordinating wording with each other. In either case, the May message will tell you all you need to know.

Just FYI. NASS rejection doesn’t mean anything for consideration on application in the end. My DD attended a CVW last April as a junior and was rejected from NASS. She is now a plebe to be for class of 2023. Just want to remphasize that not getting in to NASS isn’t a future indicator!

Attended NASS, STEM, and a CVW and on the waitlist. Don't read into anything or feel bad...

I was denied to USNA STEM, AFASS, SLE, and NASS. Appointed to USNA 09 Jan.

Don't stress about these summer camps.
