Dodmerb extraordinarily slow in processing file....HELP,

My son completed his medical exam at the beginning of October and it was promptly submitted. It sat pending review until mid-March when his medical status for AFROTC was processed and approved.

Shortly thereafter two Remedial requests were made for his service academy Medical Status. They were for last three years of presciptions, just a cycle of antibiotics, and any information on asthma, which he has never had.

The information was promptly provided. Dodmerb responded it would take 15 business days, almost a month, to process.

This worries me that my son will miss out on having his applications to USNA and USAFA fairly considered.

I called Dodmerb and got the responsible technician on the phone and she said she would not expedite his file.

I also emailed the Deputy Director of Dodmerb asking him to intercede.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Why are you handling this? Your son is the candidate. He is likely 18 and subject to HIPPA. Have him make the calls and reach out to his medical tech. The answers might be different or more complete to the candidate. After he has done the reaching out and discovered answers --then you can get involved and support his actions. Remeber DoDMERB is pretty clear about format for emails. (Cadidate name and last 4)

There is a form an applicant if over 18 can sign which gives permission for DODMERB to deal with the parent. I have no problem with a parent dealing with the complex, confusing and sometimes inefficient DODMERB bureaucratic process.

FWIW You are not alone with a long DoDMERB wait. We have been waiting over a month for processing of a (seemingly straightforward?) remedial form R251.20 saying DS has had no medical changes since being medically qualified last year. DS has been trying to contact USNA Admissions, BGO, and DoDMERB rep by both email and phone (with little success). The Deputy Director of Dodmerb has info sheet we got from our BGO that says he is fine with parents reaching out, but does encourage that DS/DD to do it themselves. So that's the next step we have been suggesting to DS. Only response we have gotten from all the emails and phone messages was from BGO who said he had been in contact with Admissions, and said that they are working to get it figured out. It seems like things are pretty chaotic with DoDMERB? That said, it doesn't seem to matter to the consideration of applications; e.g., DS received a LOA conditional on medical qualification before he even knew to submit the form.

My son got response and promise of prompt action from Deputy Director

As posted a few days ago, DS has been stuggling to figure out why his simple remedial (medically qualified last cycle, filled out remedial to say "no changes") has been languishing for ~5 weeks now. He just got a call from a DoDMERB technician. Turns out after he emailed completed form (filled out in blue ink), she faxed it to next person. But fax machine didn't have blue ink (or was out of it?), and so the form came through as blank. So nothing was processed. DS had to call and email and call repeatedly before the mystery was solved. FWIW Be proactive! And use black ink!
