The Waiting Club

DS received an LOA with his medical waiver still pending. So we're still half in the Waiting Club.

Does he have a nomination?
yes he received a congressional nomination. We are just waiting on the medical waiver for a sports injury that occurred last year (already submitted note of clearance from ortho surgeon). Everything has been confirmed received. It's just continuing to wait and check the portal daily for any changes.

Well it will be a full year as of tomorrow since DS got his TWE last year April 12th, when the big mass of TWE’s went out . Poor child is getting so stressed to find out ! Such a bummer if he doesn’t get in , he has done everything the ALO said to do to enhance his app, is slaying it with a 4.0 in college , attended the JROTC Flight Academy last summer and got his PPL, upped his SAT score by 140 points and ACT score by 6 points , going through self prep program , won leadership awards in his core of cadets . Interviewing ALO said he’s one of the best candidates he’s ever interviewed and was shocked he didn’t get in last year . Kid lives and breathes the Air Force and code of ethics.

Although I’m resigned to him not getting in at this point and am super positive about his Plan B, so sad for him if he gets that TWE . I see kids who are actually in these service academies on this forum that say they don’t even want to be in the military and wonder , jeezus how does admissions not screen them out ?

Well I hope the answer comes soon ! Still a little bit of hope but gosh , breaks my heart if my kid gets his heart broken ! Hope I can handle it and don’t say the wrong things

He sounds like he has done literally all the right things and I think there is still hope....seems like more appointments have been trickling in. Good for him for working so hard and knowing what he wants to do. He will end up where he intends to be it sounds like given his work ethic. In my heart, I believe there is always meaning behind whatever happens and if his journey to get where he wants to be is through some other avenue, it will be for some reason greater than he knows and there will be some lesson in it for him or his story/journey will help inspire someone else to do the same. Hoping for the best for him!

@FireflyMom your DS is destined for greatness with his drive. You should be proud.

Well thanks and I sure am proud ! Just hoping for him to have a quick bounce back if he does get the dreaded TWE!

UPDATE: My ALO forwarded me a message that she got from the ALO director from my state saying that this weekend MOST first-round candidates will receive appointment by this weekend. Sometime after this weekend the second-round candidates will be notified. He did not specify how long the second-round appointments would take, nor if they will come out in a mass batch or trickle in. Also, my ALO director confirmed that this year the application process was pushed into April "for some reason", and that normally first-round offers are completed in March.

If you do not hear back yet, keep the faith! Just because you do not hear back this weekend does not mean you are not in.

Yes, an answer would be nice. So is April 15 the date most will hear by or not?

I was not told and cannot specify how many will hear back this weekend, but this group of people will be the final offers of the first round of application reviews. Sometime later on we will get more offers from the Academy who get in upon a second application review from the board.

Are these the first-round candidates off of the NWL?

Does anyone have a feel for the Prep School status? How far along in the process? When would the last appointment be made?

Thank you for throwing us the sliver of hope!

Are MOCs contacted if a candidate is selected off the NWL instead of their slate, even if candidate has a nomination from the MOC?

I'm wondering this too. I know that 2 kids of the 10 my MOC nominated were recruited athletes, and I know at least 1 kid of the 10 was just rejected this past weekend. I feel like if I get selected, it would be off the NWL or something. But God and USAFA admissions only knows lol.

The link below leads to a graph which shows how the current admissions cycle compares to past cycles using the appointments reported to the Service Academy Forums (SAF). Each line measures the accumulation over time starting from zero to the number of appointments reported for a given year.

Take from it what you will. It is worth noting that those who self-report appointments may not be a representative sample of the entire candidate pool. Some years are missing.

Is there a definitive date everyone will hear by? I guess what I’m asking is May 1st the absolute last possible day and how likely is it that you will hear on that actual day? And also if you haven’t heard by now is it more of a 90/10 chance you won’t get in or what does everyone think the odds would be at this point?

The odds are good, since we haven’t received a TWE. Hang tough.

There’s really no way to know. Only admissions knows at this point. Apparently they’re quite behind this year so there could be quite a few appointments still left to be awarded. Sit tight and always have a solid Plan B. No TWE = hope!
