If you’re still CPR...

My DS is still CPR. He has an appointment to USMMA and I was deadset that a TWE was imminent any hour.
He was set to wait until Tuesday to accept his USMMA appointment unless he heard something sooner from USNA.
I was fearful that he might accept his USMMA without knowing where exactly he stood with his USNA app.
For instance, what if he removed his USNA app Tuesday, but his MOC had just not yet notified him of an appointment?
I suggested he email his MOC Monday(the 15th) and let her know he was planning on removing himself from consideration for the USNA because he was accepting his USMMA appointment, and that if she had any information worthy of sharing, now would be an opportune time to do it.
Sounded like a good plan right?
Well, my DS thought it was such a good plan he did it today instead.
In any event, the MOC’s office said “let us call admissions and we’ll email you right back”.
This is the exact wording of the email...”(DS), you are in the running for USNA’s Prep school and should know by the end of next week wether or not you’ll be made an offer”.

So to all those on CPR at the end of today...there is still a glimmer of hope.

Thanks for sharing!

I had the impression the prep school was for those who were typically recruited athletes with lower test score/gpa based academic backgrounds. I am currently still CPR but have an above average SAT score for USNA. Would this deem me improper for the prep school?

I have never read anything from USNA that states that prep school is for recruited athletes with lower test scores. Anywhere. In fact I have read lots of posts that it is for a candidate that USNA deems in need of SOMETHING that a year of prep would foster. And there really are lots of scenarios that fit that bill, one being an academic boost.

Sorry, meant to answer this guy: I don’t know.

There are lots of posts about the NAPS topic on several of the recent waiters, wait list, for, etc threads lately.

Not necessarily. My daughter was a cheerleader and rugby player she was not a recruited athlete. My son was a football player and was not recruited either. However, he did play football for Naps and went on to play sprint football for Navy. Naps is for kids who are borderline. Maybe needed a little bit better test scores and grades. Some are recruited athletes though but not all!!
Good luck!!

Obviously I'm not saying this is the case, but if hypothetically I'm deemed "too qualified" for NAPs, would I just be given a TWE instead of a year to improve?

Buddy, nobody knows...
People can speculate for you if that’s what you want...but it’s all just speculation.

What do you think you can improve on?

Awesome, this is exactly what I was hoping to hear! My GPA was easily the weakest part of my application, and I honestly think NAPS would be perfect for me.

I have a question about NAPS: do you get holidays/weekends off or time to visit home?

So see your GPA is your hook into NAPS. You do get liberty a lot more than at the Academy. Holidays and spring break I think you have time to go home. My daughters GPA was a little weak as well so she’s in your same boat. One of the benefits to NAPS is that you get a higher pay when you graduate the Academy then the direct entries because you already have a year of service in.

Keeping my fingers crossed in Michigan. I have an SAT score in the 1400s and 1-2 Bs in high-school. I guess minors tweaks academically but I'm not sure if I'm eligible for NAPs. I would be ecstatic if selected though!

GPA is more complex than the score itself. School profile, classes you took, test scores all help to provide a more well rounded look at a candidate. I had a kid I mentored with a 3.2 high school GPA, 1580 SAT, and perfect math get in to USNA directly. He graduated USNA in the top 100. None of us know exactly the formula admissions used for NAPS, but they do this day in and day out and usually do a very food job in getting it right. Unfortunately just not enough spots for everyone. NAPS is a great program. They do get holidays off and actually have a lot more weekend Liberty and freedom than Plebe year. It’s not meant to be Plebe Year or resemble one. NAPS grads will reach the 0-1 over 2 years of service a year faster than direct admits when they commission. It’s not a drastic difference, around $200. I mean $200 is $200, it’s a good thing. O-2 over 2 vs over 3 is a bigger difference, more in the $700 range. Military pay charts are very easy to find via the Google machine.

There is actually a “current Napster taking questions” on a thread titled the same. Would be a great place to ask questions.

The NAPS leave/holiday and event (USNA visit, etc.) Calendar is published somewhere on the USNA website … at least for this year. May have to wait a while for the New calendar coming soon.
