What is the minimum height requirement for females at the Coast Guard Academy?

Do you know why there is a difference between just getting into the academy and the CGAS?

Yes, this is because if you are going through the CGAS program then you have to enlist. The Coast Guard height standards are different than the Academy’s for females.

I thought that you have to enlist either way?

When attending the Academy, the standards are different than someone who is enlisted. It is a whole separate entity. Even the uniforms are slightly different than enlisted uniforms, so you can distinguish a cadet from an enlisted person. If you go through the CGAS program, you are required to enlist in the Coast Guard.

No. At the Academy you are a cadet. You are paid at the cadet pay scale. CGAS you enlist on a contract for 10 months as E2, and are paid at E2 pay scale, which is considerably higher than cadet pay. So with a little self control you can have a nice $$ in the bank before the Academy.

Ok so just to make sure I’m understanding, if you get into the Academy, but not with the CGAS program, you can be 4’ 10’’?

But to add to what I said above, as a cadet you are sworn into the military, just not enlisted.

Yes, I was qualified for USCGA through DoDMERB at 4’10. This year, I was appointed to the CGAS program and disqualified because the standard was 5’0. Aim high for a direct appointment to try and avoid this!
