Anyone still waiting to hear?

Still here, and patiently awaiting. We all know the saying.. Good things come to those who wait. Might not be entirely accurate in this scenario but hey, at least it’s a virtue! Kudos to all you super kids and thank you for your service!

arizonapride, I'm in the same boat. Complete with a congressional nomination, PPQ in DoDMERB since early December 2018. The last update on my portal was the end of October telling me I had 2 weeks to finish everything up. Good luck, hoping we both hear soon.

Son has not heard anything today. 10 appointments reported on the appointment thread. If the long timers on this forum are correct then that translates to about 100 appointments went out on the portals this morning. I'm thinking its a good chance those are the NWL kiddos. I don't have a good feeling about son still with candidate status, but whatever happens it is what it is I guess.

What is NWL

I’m still waiting. I finished my application by November 1, 2018 with 3 nominations and PPQ. There’s another thread called the waiting club with others who are waiting and adding any updates. Also there’s a new thread called the waiting club outcome or something where those who are waiting update their status, state, nominations, and medical status so others know how many of the “waiting club” ended up with appointments :)

National Waiting List usually 100-150 get selected from this pool? If I am correct, correct me if I’m not. She was assuming these appointments that came out today are those 100-150. Pretty good educated assumption in my opinion.
I wonder if any prep academy offers came out today. Let me know if you know if some have or not.

National Wait List. Im just a first year parent navigating this process, but I learned a month or so ago that all kids who have a nomination but do not win the slate go onto the NWL. USAFA by law offer appointments to the top 150 applicants on the list.

I was hopeful that this is where my son would pull his spot for appointment from at this point. He and one other kid from our district were invited to the Falcon Visitation Experience. The USAFA spent $1500 flying my kid and 125 other kids to the school back in October on an official visit. I assumed the other kid most of won the slate but was hoping my kid would be one of the top 150. I really this his ridiculous medical DQ is what is holding him up.

How do we get on or know if we are on NFL. My son has 2 nominations -Sen and congressman but medically DQ

You don't know if you are on the NWL I don't believe. I'm not sure how they list where these kids are slated if one of the 150 picked. It cannot be to the congressman. It's all confusing to me. But what I've read is all kids with noms go on the NWL if they didnt win the slate. At this late point in the game you would assume all slates are selected, so just waiting on them to pick the top 150.

Somewhere I read that admissions was tasked with having at least 50% come in completely medical qualified as pilots. My DS would need a waiver for "asthma" which he doesn't really have in the sense that he has ever had an asthma attack or used a nebulizer, a couple of times he's had a bad upper respiratory infection and a symptom has been that he wheezed so he was prescribed an inhaler, now he's DQ'd. But he also needs lasix to fix his vision, which eye doc says he's an excellent candidate for correcting to 20/20. DS was flown by the USAFA on an official visit called the Falcon Visitation Experience. He was one of only 125 kids in the nation selected to attend. Yet here we sit, waiting and at this point today, not at all hopeful, personally. And I blame the DQ and his eyes.

.... Yes God, I hear you Sir, I understand my son will be where You want him. It is completely out of our control and I must accept that.

You're sort of correct. Actually all 3Q candidates with a nom go on the NWL. After the slates, presidential noms, ROTC noms, etc (sort of) are resolved, they must by law take the top 150 still on the NWL. After that they are free to select anyone else they want from the NWL, regardless of where they rank, to round out the class.

They actually do a lot of this in parallel, but you can use my description as a mental model. So someone who is already in the top 150 on the NWL might be "deferred" to get charged to this source, even though they would be the slate winner for their congressional district, so they can pick up someone else they want from that slate (just a hypothetical example). Think of it as a moving jigsaw puzzle. That's why I always say you never know where someone is charged, even if you know who nominated them.

My son is also medically DQ - for braces! Which, after Tuesday he would no longer need a waiver as they will be OFF! For the couple days prior to his being DQ'd he was listed as PPQ on DODMERB (I have proof as I printed it out!).

Yes, my son was DQ on a bunion. It’s actually very small and it was self reported . There was no waiver raised to get it proved that is less than 15 degrees. His academic stats do look good so I am not sure why his file was not taken to the next step.

@kinnem Your description of the someone who is already in the top 150 possibly being "deferred" - could this be why an outstanding, uber qualified candidate might still be waiting to hear? We know a number of such candidates and thought they would have heard by now. Please, no one get offended by this question. We know that all candidates are outstanding in many ways. We're talking about the "no-brainer crowd" as @Christcorp likes to call them.

Beats me. Could be. I only gave a hypothetical example that I actually made up, but could envision it happening.
