Hi all
For my 18th birthday I am considering getting a small US Flag tattoo on my ribcage. I checked current Marine and NROTC policies and the tattoo is in regs. Does anyone know if I need to notify NROTC about tattoos that are within regulations? My OSO doesn’t seem to check his email and I’m not sure if it would be appropriate to email the MOI at TAMU
Thanks in advance

Well, personally I would wait until I report or speak to the OSO or MOI. Size, even if in regs, might be an issue for a flag. Placement isn't the only issue for tats. I believe content can also be an issue, but I can't swear to that.

My own son waited until he was in his MOS school to get a tat on his chest... a beautiful pattern of barley, hops, and water.

Is the flag going to have 50 stars on it? What if Puerto Rico is admitted to statehood? Consider alternatives. A heart with an arrow through it along with the word "Mom" is always in good taste.

If you're going to have tats all over like Queequeg, then you better be able to throw a mean harpoon.

DS waited as well and after gauging the climate of the command (sure it’s in regs but no sense in making his life miserable if it’s frowned upon), he sent a chit up the chain and got it over thanksgiving break

I appreciate the humor haha. My plan was to do a torn skin style tstoo with just the stripes, but after reading these posts I agree that it makes sense to wait.

Does anybody know the deal with current active enlisted tattoos in regard to going to the USNA. I hear they will be grandfathered in but I want to be 100% sure. They are well covered but about 1 inch out of size in one direction.

I'm not currently in but I'd suggest checking the official posted policy which can probably be found online, or even better just email USNA. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to let you know. Your chain of command may also be a resource. Good Luck!
