Portal Update Question

It was shocking and stings hard at first. But we are already moving forward with his plan B. He has an rotc scholarship. So he had a good plan b in place. As of right now he plans to do great at college and reapply next year. I'm a strong believer in things happen for a reason. Maybe he needs this year to grow a little and it will just make him a better cadet next year.
Was he a recruited athlete?
No he was not a recruited athlete.
DS received bad news as well. Hits harder since he was deferred from EA so the wait has been longer. Now to revisit his Plan B's to determine which is the best fit academically and athletically. I think he will see how he feels after the disappointment starts to wear off and see about reapplying next year. I was honestly surprised he wasn't offered CGAS as an option.
So sorry for the news. Hate to ask but since your DS was EA, did his portal have a new decision letter beside the one on the 15th?
My DS didn’t know if the one today was the old one from EA or a new one. It was a new one. Waitlisted.

To get this far I'm sure most students have awesome plan B's. How many have already been accepted to other academies?

My daughter was accepted into VMI, Virginia Tech (Corps of Cadets) and SUNY-Maritime. She is already enrolled at a local university because she took German because it was not offered at her school.

She didn't apply to the other Service Academies because they just didn't "speak" to her. Despite our families maritime history, she wasn't interested in the Navy. We didn't realize about the State Maritime Academies or she would have applied there.

My daughter has an excellent HS resume, she fell short on her ACT test scores. Highest test was a 27. She doesn't test well. Her math scores were not high enough. We will work on it and reapply.

My son had great HS resume but his SAT scores were somewhat low. He self prepped at MMI and they have classes that teach specifically to the weaknesses of the candidate. He applied for and received scholarships that made the school very reasonable. He currently has offers to CGA and KP and will most likely be in New London July 1. I can not say enough good about MMI, the faculty and administrators know the admission people at all the SA's and actively lobby on behalf of their students.

What do you consider low? I thought my sat was good with 750 math 670 English and I'm waitlisted.

That is a good SAT score but the academy doesn't appoint on academics alone. They are looking for well rounded individuals, so academics, after school activities, community service etc are all considered. I hope things work out well for you.

Our DS was denied, not even waitlisted. His SAT's were 1380, ACT 30, #13 out of 406 class rank, four varsity letters, and a 195 on his PFE, IB and AP Graduate, team co-captain, student government and 200 volunteer hours. No explanation as to why, but he was denied EA, invited to RA, then denied there. He is currently enrolled at his Plan B (with academic scholarship) and is seriously considering both USCGA and USNA applications next year. But we think once he gets involved in his new school Honors program, he may opt to complete his double major and if still interested apply for OCS at either the Navy or CG. He was in contact with his AO at CGA and the only advice given was to better his PFE, so he is confused and does not understand why he was not even offered the waitlist. The only thing I think of is he really bombed his interview. I guess we will never know, and it is up to him if he re-applies next year. Just goes to show sometimes the academies need something intangible to complete their classes, and there are many deserving candidates who don't make the cut. Good Luck to the Class of 2023 and also those waitlisted!
