I am so happy for my DS! He just got his email informing him he has been selected for a NROTC scholarship.
It’s been such an up and down ride. He began his journey wanting to attend Annapolis and we sent him to visit three times. He got his congressional nomination to KP instead. He began to learn about KP and fell in love with the place and became a recruited athlete. He came up short and was devastated. He had a gut check moment and we offered him an off ramp and told him he could go to college live in the fraternity house and have fun. He declined and said no he is determined to be a leader in the Fleet. He retook the ACT and is doing SAT prep to make him a better candidate for next year. He is graduating from HS June 1st and was going to begin JC on June 3rd taking advanced math classes.
He was emailed last night while we were at a baseball game and left the game early to rush home to check the NROTC website that informed us he was awarded a NROTC scholarship. After so many highs (getting a congressional nomination) and so many lows (being told he came up short for KP) we were in a state of shock last night. We stopped where we stood and said a prayer asking for his blessing and once the shock wore off, the hug I got and the smile in his face has been worth every moment of this journey! ️
