There's a lot of talk in my battalion from Cadre & ROO that Cadet Command is completely eliminating campus based scholarships in the next few years, and focusing on just trying to get cadets to contract. If that's the case, I can only imagine Army ROTC enrollment plummeting.. has anyone else heard anything?

No...bad rumor.
These sort of "rumor mill" posts is what decreases the valdity and usefulness of this forum. If you are a cadet in an ROTC program, why don't you ask your cadre for the scoop?

Well ... it appears he/she did if they are being truthful ... seems more like a post on reddit ... perhaps just a troll ... the Forum is fine ... self correction is a beautiful thing ...

Certainly not a troll, straight from the mouth of my cadre. I obviously can't validate their sources, I was just wondering if any other cadets were getting the same information sent down to them as well.

The "scoop" was that both my cadre and ROO had said campus based scholarships were being phased out, I don't see why starting a discussion about what could be a serious dilemma for those competing for scholarships is not useful or valid.

If it doesn't come out in actual written policy, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in it. That goes for your career as a military officer as well. If it's not written down, it's subject to change or cancellation just as quickly as it was implemented.

Don't play the telephone game or believe rumors.

I mentioned this recently in another thread, but it's worth repeating. The ROTC program was established by Congress, June 3, 1916. Today, after more than a century of providing officers to lead America's Army, it is responsible for providing some 70% of new lieutenants to the Regular Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve -- about 5,300 new officers each year in total to the Army. The Army's ROTC program also produces officers for the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force as well.

Doing away with campus-based scholarships would be like shooting Army in the foot. With low unemployment and obesity increasing nationally each year, it's a non-starter idea.

I think it would be extremely rare that you would see an AROTC program commission officers into the Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force.

Yeah, I assume he meant to say ROTC in the general sense.

So check it out...whether they scale back campus based scholarships or eliminate them all together it’s out of our hands and there is no use obsessing about it. If you are a Cadet who is currently counting on a campus based scholarship you better have a plan B. Cadet Command is not doing away with campus based scholarships. They have told us that money may get tighter and not to expect as many. Scholarship money ebbs and flows. We may be stressing about money getting tight this year, and offering a scholarship to anyone still breathing next year. Keep your grades up, stay physically fit, and keep participating and you will have as good a chance as any to become an Army Officer.

I just asked my DS. His cadre has said nothing about campus-based scholarships diminishing at his battalion.
