Decision Day Deadline

We are getting a bit nervous as "Decision Day" approaches. DS accepted an AROTC scholarship to what we thought was his first choice school. After several visits, he has decided that his first choice has changed, but this all just happened last week after squeezing in some last minute visits. He has applied to move the scholarship, and that paperwork was accepted and is in process. He contacted the ROO at his school of choice, to see if he can help expedite matters. Is there anything else we can/should do? What happens if the transfer is not approved before the deadline? Anyone have a similar experience that turned out well? {fingers crossed!}

One of my sons transferred his ROTC scholarship earlier this Spring - the process was complete within a week. Hopefully, you’ll have good news quickly!

It sounds like you did everything possible to expedite the transfer. On May 1, be ready to pay two non-refundable deposits.

I was totally prepared to do that, but I read that it was unethical to do so, and could even jeopardize the scholarship! If that is not the case, it would be much easier to pay twice!

There is a reason why colleges require a NON-REFUNDABLE Housing/Enrollment Commitment DEPOSIT. It is worse for the kids that get waitlisted. Unethical --- consider whether tuition rates at some private colleges are ethical.

If it gets within a couple days of the deadline why not call both schools and explain the situation? Offer to pay at both... whatever but communicate! You’re not trying to game the system if you communicate.

In the college world, an unethical action is any action that inconveniences the college. All actions made by the college are ethical and if they mistakenly send you an acceptances letter by mistake, then that is just an accident

I dunno. That was pretty close to a photo finish!
Yes! Much closer than I would like! DS made a phone call to Cadet Command which is what got it all wrapped up, so if anyone else is in a similar situation, definitely call. They were very helpful, and approved the transfer within an hour once everything was double checked.
