Hi - new to the forum with just a quick question. My DS received a 4-yr type 7 scholarship for AFROTC. He is in the middle of DodMERB. My question has to do with a sinus surgery he had for polyps among other things causing rhinitis. Thankfully, the problem seems to be fixed. I saw in the Medical Standards information about disqualifying conditions relating to sinus surgery.

"f. Current chronic sinusitis, current nasal polyp or polypoid mass(es) or history of sinus surgery within the last 2 years, excluding antralchoanal polyp or sinus mucosal retention cyst."

He had the surgery on 3/23/17. How do they calculate the 2 years? From the time of the medical exam? From the time of scholarship acceptance? Application? He officially accepted the scholarship on 3/15/19. Had we known, we would have held off until 3/24!

I'm expecting a remedial at best, hopefully not a DQ. Thank you very much for your help.

I may be wrong, but I would think the two years would be from the day the medical history is filled out. That is the way I would interpret it, but then again, I am new to this too as my DS just became qualified for DoDMERB (AFROTC also :)

The DoDMERB physical is good for 2 years from the date of the physical examination.
