During Parents weekend, when are cadets allowed to leave the Academy and when do they need to be back?

I assume you are talking about the class of 2023. After the parade Friday your cadet will give you a tour and can usually leave about 1600 hours. They must be back the next morning at about 0700 and can leave after the football game. Back again by 1900 Monday. They must be in uniform at all times in public your first year.

You will be briefed on specific requirements regarding PW - requirements tend to vary a bit from year to year, so follow your squadron-specific requirements. As as aside, you should receive better and more up to date information than your parents - take the lead during PW and let them know where you need to be and when.

Is it normal for some parents to leave mid-day Monday if they are traveling back to the east coast or do most go back Tuesday? I've been looking at flights and would have to drop DS off around 1200 for us to make a flight back. I'm torn between wanting to stay as long as possible and needing to get younger siblings back for school the next day.

There will be a combination of both - while most parents will want to stay as long as possible, family and other needs often require a balancing act. Don't feel guilty about a 12:00 vs 19:00 drop off. If your son is like mine, he'll find a spot to take a nap and then start the mental preparation to return to class.

We're heading back Tuesday, as we want to spend the afternoon with our DD. However, 1200 vs 1900 still works. PW has evolved from “back in the day”, when we had to be back in our dorm by 0100 or so each night, and then could sign out at 0600 the next morning. I’m not being the standard Grad saying how much tougher we had it , but rather saying that this is a great improvement that has made PW an even a better experience. Your DS will still have a great weekend with your Fam, but life goes on, especially when you’re trying to juggle the other children’s school needs.

We would be leaving on Monday, because as a teacher school starts Tuesday. I am torn too, but I think it's not long between Sept and Nov.

It will fly by for your cadet (days are LONG, weeks go fast). It will be longer for you than the DS/DD.

You can also check the PW schedule on the USAFA Parents page. It’s still listing info for 2018, but it should be updated shortly. Over the years, the agenda stays relatively the same so you can coordinate your travel with some confidence!

I wouldn't worry if you need to leave on Monday instead of Tuesday since you did get some time to visit. There will be a number of cadets whose parents are not able to come for PW at all.
