2023 INDOC has been being planned for some time by the administration, but today the incoming 1/C (training cadre for 2023 INDOC) were prepped on expectations and the initial rough outline for INDOC 2023.

Some takeaways:
1. They seem to be taking personal fitness a bit more serious this year, at least more than I remember from my indoc.
2. A shorter, condensed indoc seems to be implying increased intensity.

In closing, candidates should definitely be hitting their workout regime a little harder in order to excel come July 5th. I personally despised the swimming PT in my indoc, and swimming seems to be increasing in proportion with the rest of the physical training.

Overall, good luck. I’m excited to welcome the class of 2023 to USMMA.

Are incoming students expected to be proficient swimmers? I'm personally not a great one. I thought everyone (regardless of skill level) was just required to take a survival swimming course.

Depends on your definition of proficient. Every INDOC is a bit different, and it sounds like this year may include a bit more swimming. If you can tread water and swim from one length of the pool to the other, you should be fine for INDOC. It does not have to be pretty.

So, no, you do not necessarily have to be proficient. I’m a bit foggy about the requirements and can probably offer more precise feedback in the coming months, but I seem to remember being required to tread water for 5 minutes in addition to completing a continuous 15 minute swim (without stopping/hanging on the walls of the pool). There are always several people in each class who are weaker swimmers, which is fine. When you get to your required swim courses (water survival) they work with you to get you to where you need to be. Also, if i remember correctly, there was required extra swim training during water survival classes for people who needed it.

That being said, those swim PT days are basically ‘rest days’ for the people who swim well.

The real question is why it evens matters to begin with. Who cares if it should or shouldn't be capitalized. Who cares if someone thinks it should be one way or another. Why don't we just stick to the original discussion? Thanks

KPEng simply asked a question then made a true statement of fact, that indoc is not in fact an acronym. He did not state that anyone was wrong to do so and in fact did not question anyone on this thread but questioned the Academy's use of it in all caps on their website. sunnydreamer than made a statement which could be considered rude and denigrating for no apparent reason.

I actually thought KPEng showed restraint in his response.

Its great how people here who have never been a kid at KP think they know whats happening. I graduate from this place in 30 days (God willing) but all of the people here know whats going on in the barracks better than me.

The swim class at KP is more of an assessment than an instruction in swimming. Some of the swim teachers/coaches are ruthless and will rip you to shreds, one guy comes to mind and he's notorious. If you cannot swim you will be behind the pack and you will have to improve as quickly and painfully as possible. Do you HAVE to be proficient? The answer is YES. Don't let anybody here beat around the bush with you.

Will you get kicked out on day 0 for it? no, but don't think that it'll just happen on its own because it won't.

I am disappointed that someone who is expecting to graduate from Kings Point in 30 days has not yet matured enough to realize that there may be things about his soon-to-be Alma Mater (or anything else) that someone else in the world might know that he does not. I enjoy different points of view on this forum from those on the inside and from alumni, as well as from those on the outside. I will refrain from engaging any further and wish you a sincere good luck on your license exams.

I assumed he posted in the wrong thread since his post didn't make much sense to the topic at hand

I am sorry if my previous post was perceived untactful. Was not my intention to be facetious. There was a hope that my post will be read and someone will chuckle. I am sorry also that the thought of my previous post even crossed my clouded civilian mind. In the future will restrain myself to question an engineer.
