I received an email this past weekend with a conditional offer to NAPS! I’m totally excited, but I still need to get a DoDMerb waiver. Now that I got my LOA, has the waiver process really started? How long can I expect to wait? And assuming I get a waiver , does anyone know what day we are to report to Newport? I’m very excited to be offered an LOA, is anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks!

Our Daughter received a Guaranteed Offer of Appointment email around January 15th I believe. Her portal also said LOA, contingent upon a Medical Qualification, which turned out to be a Waiver.

Apparently they started the Waiver process and she now has her Full Offer of NAPS Appointment on February 8th, about 3 weeks latter. She has already Accepted and has Submitted the 3 required documents to the Nom/Appointments USNA address (Birth Cert., Police Check, and some other form).

We went over to the County Sheriffs main office to get the Police Check report. That was kind-of fun.

You will report to RI on the 3rd Saturday/Sunday in July .... The Portal will post with Instructions. Get those 3 documents I mention above done quickly. Also, look through one of the PDFs for an Immunization sheet and take it to your Physician to fill in the blanks, then probably schedule to have the Rest done before you Report.

Oh, one more thing ... after you graduate NAPS in 2020, you will be USNA Class of 2024.

How does this sound?

Thank you so much, that’s awnsers my question entirely! So I should expect an update in the DoDMerb portal within roughly three weeks? Thank you for your time!

You will probably get an Appointment on the USNA portal about a week before the DoDMERB portal updates. USNA issues the waiver, updates your portal, then sends that information over to DoDMERB.

@Bigj102 - Congrats! I have a son currently at NAPS and it is a wonderful experience! Official report date hasn’t been posted but last years report date was Tuesday, July 24th with an open house on Monday, July 23rd. Once you get your final waiver go on to Facebook and signup for “NAPS Class of 2020.” There will be a student page and a parent page. We post lots of information and answer questions.

@cns3700. I thought it was always the 3rd Saturday or Sunday in July -- this year, July 20/21. Our daughter will be at NAPS this summer.
.
I googled and found various I-Doc presentations from prior years, an tried to put 2&2 together .... Oh well.

My daughter is in the same situation! I wonder if most get waivers or not?
Thanks

LOA (Guaranteed Appt) to NAPS just means there is a "Required Actions(s)" in that box on the Portal …. When I saw my daughter's, it said "Required Action: Medical Qualification", but there were No special instructions.

I have seen others on this sight with the same Pattern, and this means that a "Waiver" was already started.

So, perhaps all your Daughter is waiting on is for the USNA Doctor to approve the Waiver.

I was wondering, I got a Contingent LOA for NAPS and awaiting on my medical waiver. The deadline to accept any appointment is May 1st, but if my medical waiver process is still ongoing, what must be done?
Another question I have is when you finish NAPS, do you have to start the USNA Application process all over again or just the Congressional/Senatorial Nomination process?
What are the chances of being rejected from USNA when you finish NAPS?

Congratulations on your LOA to NAPS. Our Daughter is going to NAPS too.
.
You should probably reach out to your Application Officer and/or DoDMERB if you have any questions regarding your Waiver process. If there are any special instructions on your Portal, you should do those as quick as possible.
.
You don't need a new USNA application, but you will soon (May 1st or so) have to seek Nominations again (Rep and Senators). They should be able to reuse a Lot of last years application. Just call them and see what they need. Try to get these Nominations done before you report in Middle July to NAPS in Newport RI (if you decide to Accept).
.
If you Graduate from NAPS and do everything you are told to do, then the chances are High that you will get an Appointment to USNA for the class of 2024.

For the miscellaneous checklist, it stated that midshipman/cadet for NAPS need to have collared shirt, casual/dress slacks, pair non-athletic shoes, belt, 2 pairs of running shoes Is there a certain color that we need to get for the shirts, belt and the shoes?

@nguyens_12763, they’ll be very precise about what you need to wear and bring. Read the directions carefully and do as stated — nothing more and nothing less. You can drive yourself batty trying to guess what they mean, so go with what’s said. Best wishes to you.

@MidCakePa + …. If the colors are not specified, I would say Conservative colors (Navy, White, Black, Gray, Kaki, … etc.).

Anyway, you are starting early. Our daughter will be going through the NAPS checklist soon after she graduates HS on June 1oth.

The collared shirt and casual dress slacks are in reference to “liberty” clothes. My son started out with khakis and a dark blue polo shirt but they end up wearing regular college kids clothes. Athletic wear or casual nice clothes. At NAPS they are in some type of uniform (casual or formal) while on base.

Congrats! My situation is a little different. I’m currently awaiting my LOA to enlist in the Naval reserves to bring with me to my local recruiting station. I’ve been waiting for a while now, but remaining patient. I also have to receive a background check from my local police station, as well as submit proof of citizenship. Does anyone know how to complete the body alteration form? I don’t have any tattoos so what do I do?

By signing the body alteration form, you acknowledge that you have read and understand the alteration policy .... Go ahead and check the appropriate boxes, sign it, and have your parents (elders) witness your signing, and have them sign, then send a Copy into the USNA.
