My USAFA application was deemed not competitive due to my low test scores. I was reading and it says that those who are competitive will receive a USAFA Candidate Kit by July. The only other ACT/SAT dates are in June & July. Is there any way that I will still be able to be deemed competitive if I get my test scores after they send out the Candidate Kit, or am I just out of the running for good?

You can keep taking the test until they deem you competitive UNTIL Jan/Feb Deadline. Competitiveness is a function of your district competition but as a general rule if you have scores of 27-29 ACT Composite for USAFA you may be deemed competitive. But we strongly advise you keep taking the test until you score all sections 30+to be safe. Of course scoring 36 on English and Math are optimal.

It is not only composite, but the Verbal/Eng has to be over a min too. For example, you can have a 30 ACT composite. but if you have 24 on the English than you will still not be deemed competitive. Keep taking the ACT and SAT. Just beware that it is not only being considered a candidate by USAFA, but you need a nom. from your MoC too. Many of them will require you to submit your nom application between mid Sept and mid- Oct.

I would say class of 2024 is a clean slate. You start out building your file in July. Any higher scoring test between now and the deadline(late fall?) is fair game.

I would suggest you create an account online with Khan Academy. It is free and can study/prep for the ACT/SAT. My DS spends about an hour everyday studying and then takes a practice test on the weekend. He has been working on improving his SAT score for the last 6 weeks. On his last practice test online he scored a 1410 based off previous year SAT. He took the SAT last weekend and is eagerly awaiting results hoping he scored a 1400.

My SAT is 640 ENG and 520 MATH and I have been set as Competitive, however I am Prior-Enlisted. I have never taken the ACT so perhaps they are waiting to see a solid score?

Are you 100% sure you were non-competitive solely on the test scores? My DS got in with a 1210- however, he had amazing academics and stellar leadership experience.

I highly suggest a prep school- NWP if you are primarily concerned with test scores, MMI if you want to work on leadership and academics. I can't speak to the other schools.
