For the last 43 years, women plebes have managed with hair that is no longer than the bottom edge of their collar. Look at historical pictures and you'll see there were various versions of that cut. A short cut is pretty easy to manage during the summer -- it never looks great but, with a good cut, it will look okay and will dry out pretty quickly. It's a pain for a couple of months when you grow it out, but generations of women have managed.
This year, plebe women have the option of keeping their hair long. Anyone who's been through plebe summer will tell you that your hair will be wet 90% of the time. Wet in the morning with PEP. No time to blow dry after your shower, so your morning continues with it wet -- clean wet but still wet. You then march around in the heat and humidity all day -- the bun won't dry out. You'll have swim evolutions -- hair stays wet. Depending on length, it may or may not dry out overnight. And on you go. So if you plan to keep it long, make sure it doesn't mold (no kidding). Also make sure you practice on putting it up QUICKLY.
There is no reason to get a buzz cut. Obviously, it's your call. But it's not necessary. As to whether that would attract more (or less) attention from the detailers . . . I would think that the only folks who should get called out for hair issues are those (male or female) whose hair is not within regs. Or, if you get mold in your hair.
