I am a prior service AF NCO, currently going into my MS3 year in Army ROTC. I will contract in August after I ETS from the AFR and will enlist in the TXARNG for the SMP program. My recruiter at school informed me I will not have to attend school for the MOS I select. I have a few questions and would be grateful if someone answered them

1. Would I be able to train with my unit that I get assigned to? Or I will I just be considered as an extra body? Also, will my TIS still count?

2. Infantry is one of the MOS I am considering. If I did pick infantry, would I be allowed to wear the cord? Just curious since I look at it as distinguishing and a brand.

3. Would I be able to attend any Army schools as an SMP cadet?

Thank you all!

You can attend schools if you earn the slot.

You will train with your unit, but you will be an Officer candidate, so you really can’t train for a critical slot, since you are non deployable. It will also depend on how your unit wants to use/develop you.

You will not earn your cord until you are MOS qualified (which you won’t be) or when you complete your BOLC (if you eventually get branched infantry).

For the record... I I had to lose my cord when I got transferred from the infantry to the signal corps. Not a great feeling, but not the end of the world.

^^^^Fist pump to Clarkson.
The Infantry Blue Cord should be a permanent part of the uniform for those who have earned it regardless of assignment IMO.
Fortunately I was never in a unit that I couldn’t wear mine.
Good luck to the OP, Infantry is an outstanding MOS Choice. Hope you get the slot and qualify.

Truly appreciate the replies! I am DEFINITELY gonna look into arrrebding

Truly appreciate the reply! Hopefully I can attend some schools and will be at a unit that is constantly training! I am hoping to commission in an MOS similar to the one I enlist.
