Yesterday (15 May 2019) I got to commission my DS as a Army 2LT . . . truly a very special and proud moment for me and our family. DS will branch Aviation.

Today (16 May 2019) my DS graduated from VMI with a degree in Physics. A truly great achievement by him for him. The road was hard, and he is better for it . . . so very proud.

I want to thank all of you on this site that provided us with such great advice and helped us navigate through the 4 years of AROTC and VMI . . . Some of you provided private direct messages that were priceless . . . Some of you didn't even know that the advice you provided in varoius posts were just what we needed to hear.

To all of you . . . thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and experience . . . this is truly a great Forum.

Congratulations to your son (and you) for his accomplishments. I had a few minutes today and watched a live stream of the VMI graduation ceremony. Even though my son is 100% focused on SA for now, there is a huge part of me that would love it if he became 100% committed to attending VMI. We visited there over his Spring Break and were so impressed. It really is a very special place; we could tell immediately. I'm sure it was a tough journey for you all, but days like today/and yesterday, have to make it all worth it. Congratulations again; very special!

@Falcon A - Congratulations to you and your son. You have no doubt helped countless people with your posts and private messages. You've certainly helped me a great deal, especially when my DS was a Rat and all things VMI were new and strange to me. I hope you stick around on this forum.

Sir... congrats to your family and the brand new 2LT. As you said, he’s a better officer and person for having gone through the trials and tribulations over the past few years.

Who knows, he may be my DD’s battalion commander one day when she’s a flight surgeon. [emoji106]

SO very glad to hear the news about your son. I know you are all savoring the moment and excited for the next part of the adventure. I wanted to point out that you gave as much advice as you got. You've been a great contributor to the forum. Hope you stick around.

@Falcon A ,

Congratulations to your DS.

It may be hard to imagine, but your interest/concern/amazement doesn't end now. The next part of the experience is the best part...and the next part... and the next part.

Edit: I just read your bio, so let's just leave it at Congratulations to your DS!
You have apparently been there and done that. I have to imagine, however, that it is a different feel as a parent.

Congratulations to your son!

Thank you for all of your insightful posts for us parents of upcoming Rats. I have read so many of your posts dating back to when he received his appointment. Yes, I had a lot of time on my hands one evening.

@Falcon A,

Congrats to you and especially your son! Hard work pays off, and makes the reward that much SWEETER! God watch over him while he serves...

Hope all of you are well !!!

Brief update since May of 2019 …

In addition to commissioning, and graduating in May 2019, DS also got married to a smart and beautiful young lady … they moved to Ft Rucker just before COVID hit … DS is now a 1LT, has now completed primary Flt training and has been assigned UH-60M Blackhawk as his aircraft… he and we are thrilled …

As for me … been watching y’all … 😁

I failed at retirement the first time around so going to give it another try …

We recently moved out of NoVa to get back to what we both consider our home … Colorado … will actually be living for a while in base housing on the Academy while we build a new home …

Happy to help the new crop however I can … feel free to drop me a line …

Y’all take care …
