This morning I got up and watched the Notre Dame Commissioning on their live feed. I love listening to the guest speaker and once again, I was not disappointed....afterwards I watched my oldest DS Commissioning from 2 years ago and realized that all those parents, family and friends were experiencing the same pride I felt 2 years ago. I'm 2 years away yet from my youngest sons Commissioning and I'm so grateful and proud that my sons chose to serve. I dont come from a military family so this is my first experience. I wanted to take a moment to congratulate all the new officers who are commissioning this time of year, God bless you and protect you as you turn the page to a new chapter. And congratulations to your family and friends...I'm certain you are bursting with pride.

A year ago at this time we were one of those proudly watching our DD commission in the Navy at Notre Dame. It was a wonderful ceremony and graduation. She is loving the Navy and is currently deployed until December (we think). This week, we are headed to West Point to see our youngest graduate and be commissioned. I'm sure we will be equally momentus. Obviously, we will be sad our daughter will not be there to witness the event, as he was able to get away for the weekend to watch hers, but we know this is the life of the military. While both of us parents were Army Officers, nothing compares to seeing your own children reach their goals. Now our attention will shift to working of wedding planning for both of them!

One year ago my DS commissioned. I too am not from a military family and I share your feelings. Great post. Thanks.

DS was one of 13 (of an original 25) to commission as Ensigns this weekend at RPI. So great to see such a close knit group of young men and women take this first step towards their new duties. It was great to see many of the AFROTC students in the audience at the NROTC commissioning. DS couldn't stick around long afterwards, as he and many of his friends reciprocated, and attended the AFROTC commissioning ceremony. Great to see the camaraderie between the branches. I'd also like to offer up a big thank you to those of you, who over the years, especially at the start of this journey, answered the myriad questions and concerns that I had.

I did not serve but I am grateful to those who did, and grateful to have found this forum and the community that it sustains.

It gives great comfort to know there are many people in our society who remain committed to integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.

Thank you.
