I was never a big coin guy but my favorite and a very unique one is from my son’s last company in which he commanded. I have one from the White House but can’t find it.

My daughter and my husband have challenge coin collections.

I've started a wall mounted shadow box with two or three rows of dadoes cut on each level for my daughter to put her challenge coins in. She FINALLY picked wood that she liked. Solid oak with cedar and purple heart. I think her favorite challenge coins are from the National Executive Director of the Young Marines, and the Pentagon one from when she did a Color Guard there.

My husband's challenge coins over ran the challenge coin display he received when he made Chief Warrant Officer. I need to build him a new one for his War Room. The top drawer of the map drawers that I built him, which his challenge coins are sitting on, has a bunch of the overflow of his coins. I am not sure which are his favorites, but I'd venture to guess that they are the ones from the more interesting missions he's been on.

I built the sword hanger behind the PATFORSWA uniform, the map drawers and did the matting and framing of his Commission certificate.

Bullet carries 2 with him. One was created for his office at the Pentagon by the makers of Jeremiah Weed. It is Jeremiah weed logo on 1 side and fighters on the back. He was working on the 35 at that time so he asked and received #35. Other guys took whatever number that was associated with their fighters if available.
The 2nd he carries is in case someone does a true coin challenge. It was given to him by the Sec Def of Australia.

I would take a pic of his shadow box, but the glare would reflect off the glass. It is not a typical shadow box, it is huge (30x36 in). It is done in columns with every squadron scarf and the patches he wore in that squadron, and at the bottom is the coin he carried, plus his visor covers for his helmet.

His true pride and joy is his flight helmet. When he retired he had it painted with the planes he flew (on the back) and his call sign in silver on the front. It is AF blue with a cloud motif. I about died when I had to write the check for it. Between his shadow box, and the helmet, it probably cost us close to 1/2 of his 1st retirement pay check.

My DS was invited to DC by a 2 Star Admiral he met at his high school. He was impressed enough to invite our family to tour DC and we had a private tour of the Pentagon. My DS received this coin during our tour.

Looks like my son would have to pay for the beer, The best he's received was from the Commandant of the Marine Corps when he commissioned. Wish I had a picture of that one, it was the size of a playing card.

@Magna Venari : Sigh...you made the sword holder...& the wall mounted shadow box...& challenge coin display with map drawers...& have a AD DD...Are there any more at home like you??:)

@Pima - You just happen to live in a town that has one of my most favorite place on earth, the Tank Farm. It's on Aden Road. I love it there. I did a lot of volunteer work there while we were stationed in DC and living in NoVa. Restoring leather on many tanks (who knew there is SO MUCH leather in tanks!) and the WWII Harley Davidson. Building out wooden stands to display artillery shells, creating stencils for artillery shells and the tanks, throwing fits because they had standard sockets with metric sockets. I have an odd skill set, so there was always something for me to do.

I hope our next PCS is back to DC so I can go back to my beloved tanks.

Very cool. Side bar: The official residence of the CJCS has the best view in DC. It’s a big old mansion at the top of a hill at Fort Myer.

We went up that hill to watch fireworks from Whipple Field. It was spectacular. I took Georgie Patton to Summerall Field to watch the Twilight Tattoo. You've never seen a dog so happy as when he heard cannons.

General Milley gave his challenge coin to every cadet in the class of 2019 this past weekend. Our son says he kinda ruined the point of them as unless he runs into someone with a presidential coin, no one can top his four star. I’ll see if I can get a pic of it.

If he sticks around long enough, someone will "throw down" a VCJCS, or CJCS, or SecDEF, ASecDEF, SEC(Insert service)...

The beauty of them is getting the unusual, the unique...but really, to me, its having someone acknowledge an act or action that they deemed "above the norm."

Seems like a “mine is bigger than yours” thing, but what do I know?
