For anyone that received an appointment to any SA, did your high school or another organization do anything special for you? I know MOC's hold events, but I'm more curious about high schools or College ROTC programs conducting some type of unique or special ceremonies for the appointees or ROTC scholarship winners.

There is a lot of information on this on the forum (I.e. search function). My DS had his high school senior scholarship and awards day today and his USNA Area Coordinator made a nice presentation of his appointment portfolio and used a script provided by USNA. Lasted less than five minutes and was very nice.

Normally, your FFR will set it up with your school. Failing that, the RC will work to get it done. They take great pride in this process and are happy to help.

At our school they honored a AFA appointment for one student along with my DS for his NRTOC scholarship
during the end of year academic awards ceremony

This week, a representative from the Coast Guard Academy came to present me with my appointment during our Senior Breakfast/ awards ceremony. One of my friends also had someone come to present her with an ROTC scholarship. It was very cool, and I am glad to have had this ceremony, despite the fact that I was anxious about having it (I'm not a fan of being at the center of attention).

I had my senior awards day yesterday. My FF officer came to present my appointment and had a speech prepared. She spoke, called me up to the stage, and gave the speech. I even got a standing ovation. Like DeltaDogs, I’m not one for being the center of attention, but I do enjoy being recognized for my accomplishments.

My FFR gave me the option of when I would like to be presented the appointment. I had it done at my Eagle Scout ceremony because I had family in town, but she (FFR) noted that most of her candidates had the ceremony at an awards night.

While your school may not reach out initially to organize it, I am sure that they would be more than willing to add an award ceremony into another event (such as the senior award night) to recognize the accomplishment. I think you, the SA, or your FFR has to ask about it first though.

My DS gave his guidance counselor his BGO (USNA) contact info so the guidance counselor could extend the invitation and my DS followed up with the BGO to let him know it was something he (DS) would like. That way the BGO knew it was okay with the school and ok with the appointee.

My FFR offered and asked for the dates and contact info for my counselor, but I eventually decided to just not have a ceremony or any of that at the Awards assembly for my school.

Our school did not do anything special for this. They simply named the appointment, (as if it were a scholarship), just as they did for ROTC scholarships, at the Senior awards night, with the list of all the other scholarships students had received. We were fine with this and did not feel there was any special recognition needed.
