ACT scores sent..how long should it take?

Quick question- We sent DS ACT scores on 07 May, and his application portal still shows that no scores have been received. Is this something where there is a stack of scores sitting on someone's desk until they have time to enter them into the system? I don't know at what point we should contact someone, and if that would be someone at ACT, or someone at USNA. Has anyone had experience with this?

Second question- he took two SAT subject tests today (Math 2 and Chem) for a different university he will apply to. If he does particularly well, is it worth sending these? USNA doesn't request them, but if all data helps paint the picture...?

If we’re talking a Class of 2024 app, immediately after graduation (5/24), the Yard is very, very quiet. Uniformed and civilian staff have a chance to take leave and PTO before 2023 is admitted in a few weeks and the 2024 app cycle ramps up. There may still be a teeny tiny bit of work going on with a gnat’s handful of 2023 appointments being finalized. Once 2023 is inducted, 2024 becomes the focus.

If you read through the threads here, one theme is common: hurry up and wait. There is not an army of admin people in Admissions; it’s a lean team who gets things done in priority order.

That said, give it another 2 weeks or so, see if it shows up.

I am about 99% sure USNA doesn't accept or consider SAT subject tests.

Another thing: USNA does not use the Reading or Science sections on the ACT (Source: My admissions counselor). When your scores pop up on the Candidate Information System (CIS), only the English and Math scores will.

If I recall with DD’s application, the USNA took the longest (compared to USMA and USAFA) to get her ACT scores uploaded. It’s only just over 3 weeks you’ve sent them. Give it another couple weeks. You’re way ahead of the game so waiting it out a bit at this point won’t disadvantage your DS.

Just to let you know, it took a while for her HS transcripts to get recorded in the USNA app too.

The good thing is her Lt admissions counselor was very responsive. He answered her emails within 24 hours.

Thanks everyone, very helpful. His application is in this odd place where he has basically started/ partially completed everything but every item is still listed as incomplete. Not too stressed about it, just want to have at least one thing show up as complete. :) He wants to take his time to get his application in the best shape he can, so is taking his time with his personal statement; will hopefully get decent CFA scores as SS in 2 weeks; and can't get the transcripts in until after spring semester finishes up. Between this application and a couple of ROTC apps, there are a lot of pieces to the puzzle for him to get into place.

Thanks @23Lt re subject tests.

To all the Class of '24 Applicants -- First step, RELAX. This is a marathon, not a sprint to the finish. As CAPT MJ points out, this is Admissions time to take a break and shuffle people around to different positions. Posting of ACT scores, that really aren't going to be looked at for months, is not a real high priority.

Yes, there is some benefit (there are a lot of threads on this issue in the Forum) to getting application completed early in the cycle, but there are not points given for being first. Take your time, do it right, and things will get posted when they get posted. If I had to identify one thing that you should do early , it would be getting Teacher evaluations done -- student is fresh in the teachers mind, the school year is winding down, and next fall the teachers attention will be focused on the next class.

This year, DS plugged in the usna code when he tested (BC it’s free, and he knew he would apply) last June and October. I didn’t realize it was done. So I wonder what actually happens physically in that situation? ACT doesn’t even know him yet.

Anyone know?

They can’t be reordered on the ACT website BC they already were requested at testing time.

Not concerned, but curious!

OP, he is a session 2 participant as well!

We had plugged in NROTC codes when he first took ACT last October, but he didn't have an application open at that time so I'm guessing they went into the bin. :) Just as well, because he took it again in Feb and raised the math score a wee bit. We re-sent to USNA and NROTC a few weeks ago, but it sounds like there is no need to worry about it at this point.

@justdoit19 He will actually be at SS 3- sorry we will miss you!

I wondered if in this digital age, if it’s a matter of being sent an online access or something. Do testing centers actually send a physical hard copy? No idea how it’s done....

Scores are sent to USNA twice a month. They are sent on a DVD/CD with a code for the student. If you are concerned you may call ACT and request the date the scores were sent then contact your admissions counselor and share this information with them. I would not be alarmed yet USNA is on a skeleton crew after commissioning.

Good to know for DS’s case. Will have him follow up later. TY!

DS has been putting the USNA code in on SATs since before he had an open application. Same reason, it was free. I thought they would go to the bin as well, but when his portal opened up a few weeks back , they were all magically in there.

DS sent both ACT and SAT scores early/middle of May - whenever he received his Ecandidate email. SAT scores were there about 10 days later, but still no ACT scores. Good to know there is just a delay, it seems, with ACT. (He sent his scores to NROTC in April and nothing is updated there.)

A follow up: DS’s didn’t show up so he emailed his admissions counselor. He was requested to contact ACT and get the date and batch number so the could access them. After he supplied that information to admissions, his portal updated. They have to physically look for
them apparently. He had sent his so early as stated before.

The CollegeBoard just hangs out with your scores for two weeks after you order the report unless you pay them an extra 20$ or something. At this point, just wait.
